I'd really love to see a soundtrack release to Maniac Cop 3 by the late, great Joel Goldsmith. One of his more obscure titles, but a good one. The Maniac Cop movie trilogy has quite a cult following. The soundtracks to the first two Maniac Cop movies by Jay Chattaway were released on vinyl and Maniac Cop 2 had a CD release as well. I would love to have SOMETHING from Maniac Cop 3. At the very least, maybe just a digital release. I'd buy it!
Yes more Joel Goldsmith. This and several other scores by him deserves to be released such as Joshua Tree, The Man With Two Brains, Man`s Best Friend and Rattled among others.
Yeah, that's what got me thinking about it. I knew they'd been working on the 4K releases. I just thought it would be a perfect time to see some new Maniac Cop soundtrack releases to coincide with these new 4K releases. I contacted Blue Underground (director Bill Lustig's company) about such a thing, but they said they didn't have the soundtrack rights to 1 & 3. I know Bill doesn't have the video/blu-ray rights to release Maniac Cop 1, that's with Synapse Films. And as far as soundtrack rights, who knows?
Yep, the original Maniac Cop came out on LP but it's a disappointingly short 25 minutes. The score isn't much longer than that but there are a few great cues missing.
I went ahead and bought the digital download as I already have the old vinyl. It's nice to have some clean WAV files as I had transferred the vinyl to digital years ago and it DID have a little crackle and pop.
Both the new vinyl and the digital download have the same tracks as the previous release. No unreleased cues. Bummer.
Ship to Shore has a Memorial Day sale with 30% off IN STOCK items. I was able to use this discount code on my digital download: MEMORIAL30
Downloaded and listened to the digital MANIAC COP.
Converted to FLAC which, interestingly, registers as 24-bit.
Sound quality is basically the same as the LP, but without the pops and surface noise. So - better - but apparently not remastered in any way. And I'm not sure the source. It has less "pow" than my LP transfer, actually, but obviously none of the aforementioned clicks and noise.
Blimey - what a shambles. I just listened to Basket Case 3 and that sounds pretty bad too (though I don't have another source ro compare that against)
Who are these people?!
Yeah, truly sad. It makes me wonder if they're using these mono files as the source for their upcoming vinyl pressing of MANIAC COP. I've requested a refund from them. I don't know if they will oblige, but I paid through PayPal, so I could always file a dispute as well. I'll wait before doing that to see what they do. I know it was only $6.30 with the discount code, but that's $6.30 I could have put towards something ACTUALLY USEFULL! I suggest everybody else request a refund too. Send them a clear message that crappy work will NOT go unnoticed.
