There is also a booklet inside, with tech credits and notes. I played disc one and I think Damian's initial relentless comment lowered my expectations a bit. It wasn't as full on as I anticipated and there are some softer and/or folk/Celtic style cues. It didn't sound as thematically strong as the first score to me, although plenty of the themes from GOW1 do reappear. Disc 2 still to play. Solid work from Bear Mc as usual. I'm sure it will grow on me with subsequent listens.

Fair comments, kEv. I liked it more on second play, well disc 1. Nothing wrong with the music as such. Maybe I was a bit overwhelmed or half listening.

I'm making my way through Disc 2 now and some of it is mighty great and powerful. It (D2) opens with a more gentle passage (To Forgive Or To Kill), recalling the tranquil beauty/power of LOTR-TROP and I love the organ and beat in track 3/Muspelheim & Nilfheim (shades of Morricone). Actually, a lot of it echoes the wondrous work he did on the Amazon/LOTR series. It's epic scoring, that will take some time and effort, but I imagine the rewards will be well worth it. It still all feels like Bear's own muscular take on Basil's CONAN scores to me.

For anyone interested, a couple of weeks ago Santa Monica Studios announced God of War: Ragnarok - Valhalla. The accompanying trailer featured themes from the original series, not heard since God of War: Ascension in 2013, alongside McCreary's own themes. Here's hoping that we'll see a release of the new music written.
