The San Francisco Symphony did a live to film concert of "On The Waterfront" to Leonard Bernstein's score two years ago. A few weeks ago I attended the SFO performing "The Godfather" live to film. Fabulous.

Given RonBurbella and David Lichty’s report of their sitting-on on a rehearsal for the live-to-picture concert from RUDY—without the film’s dialogue and sound-effects… https://filmscoremonthly.com/board/posts.cfm?threadID=148357&forumID=1&archive=0 …, perhaps the orchestras that present these concerts should consider having an open rehearsal for these concerts. It would be a win-win for both the film-music lovers and the orchestras. Yes, Jens was particularly keyed into that rehearsal, and frankly, both were interesting. The first was out of sequence (I think to allow the horn section to lave after their cues), with no film sound and many surprising adjustments. Jens particularly enjoyed seeing the silent clips and hearing the music live, in the clear. The second included the choir, who got most of the adjusting focus, involved just underscored clips, not the whole film, this time shown in order and with sound (to balance the film with the music). Each had its fascinations. I wonder, though, if this pretty good idea might take too much of the rehearsal out of the rehearsals? With even a small audience, the orchestra might already feel on stage, needing to have a proper rehearsal before the public ones. I don't know though, because I don't play for an orchestra!
