How big of a deal is this? Anyone know? Anything we don't have already?

It's hard to tell reading that article. I can't tell if these new releases will be expanded beyond the Sony releases or if they will be CD issues of the remastered versions of the original soundtrack albums that have been around for a year or two. I'll wait until we hear more information about these releases before I make any decision as to whether I will or won't buy them.

It's just the OST albums once again

First time the TESB 2LP program will be available on CD, at least

Such an iconic franchise filled with memorable visuals... and that's the cover art they go with?

Sigh.

Another re-re-re-release I'll be skipping of these famous film scores.

Wake me when a label like Intrada gives them the special treatment.

Art is dreadful, but hopefully they are good remasters. Curious to hear Jedi, some of its music during the Star Wars Celebration sounded noticeably improved.

Reason to rejoice....wow, out of touch much press?

If anyone bothers, maybe post if these ARE truly remastered noticible improvements?
Usually it seems a yet another remaster is followed by a REAL expansion revisit , so keep hope alive, everyone....

Agreed! Although let's be real, I'll probably end up buying this anyway...

I bet these are simply CD pressings of the mastering Shawn Murphy did recently for the digital downloads/LPs that were released a year or two ago.

Wow!
Those covers are...
TRULY
FUCKING
AWFUL
They remind me of the old Bruce Baxter LP that I bought back in the 70's, before I bagged the real deal.
Unless I read there's a serious upgrade in sound, I too will wait until someone like Mike M or Intrada/LaLa get hold of these AND expand the prequel scores properly.

Probably, I gave up keeping up with these.
How did THAT take sound? Wait, don't tell me, couldn't be earth shattering since I would have read all about it here.
Personally it's just EMPIRE & JEDI that need revisiting....someone wrote an article about what & how they would fix them, an engineer.
I don't have it now, nor details, but it was well written, made me sad how the care noted probably won't happen, since, hey....who doesn't want a collectible STAR WARS mini poster, eh eh? I defy one where where they can find THAT!

Interesting that the prequel scores have been remastered. Wonder how or if they’ll be improved.

The article keeps blanking out on me. mad Anyone know if the Attack of the Clones disc will have the "On the Conveyor Belt" track?

Regarding the remasters: there was quite a bit of discussion about them when they came out.

They sound pretty good, Star Wars having the most limitations. They are the best sounding editions of Empire and Jedi, but as has been noted, they are only the original albums, so Jedi is woefully short.

The press release specifically says "reconstructed", so these are NOT simply the 2016 editions on CD.

The 2016 editions [which Disney Records reissued in 2017] were just new transfers of the final analog-edited LP masters from 77/80/83. Meaning they were the best sounding version of ancient analog-edited LP masters.

A true reconstruction would mean they grabbed every take of every cue from the earliest possible generation elements, digitally transferred them in high resolution (the press release indicates Shawn Murphy supervised this transfer), then re-edited the album programs out of those takes using modern digital editing technology.

This would mean no more hard edit from the main title into the end credits in track 1, for example.

The 2015 editions [which Disney Records reissued in 2016] took the final analog-edited LP masters from 77/80/83 and digitally spruced them up for release.

So this MIGHT be something I have to get. Damn their eyes.

I've been saying for years now that if one of The Labels ever does The Ultimate Star Wars Set that I would want the original LPs. Now if I buy these and then that happens it would be a pretty sizable double dip.

Problems it would be good to have, I suppose.

I'm all for having the original Empire Strikes Back presentation on CD. Remasters of the other albums aren't the worst thing to happen either. If we aren't getting the complete scores in pristine sound with alternates in their own discrete tracks, this isn't a terrible consolation release. I'll probably end up getting them though the covers are absolutely hideous.

Any chance someone could point me to a good overview of Murphy's 2LP ESB remastering? (Here or anywhere.) Thanks; the search box can't seem to find anything on FSM.

I skipped earlier discussion when these were digital-only, and I'm really only interested in having the 2LP ESB on CD. However, when our beloved labels get a crack at it, I'll definitely fork over the funds!
