I changed the oil and filter on my car today. I actually waited 400 miles longer than I should've, but unintentionally. Anyhoo.. my car holds 3 and 7/8 quarts of oil. When I drained it, I discovered that I was low almost 2 QUARTS! You think I've damaged my engine by running it with that much less oil?

Howdy thar, Sheriff!
I lak yor ansuh... succinct and reassuring!! smile
Of course, the car will turn 20 years old in July.. so this is to be expected! My valve stem seals have started to go bad, and the oil seals are leaking.. both of these are very minor leaks but leaks nevertheless!

We're in the same boat, Jim. I have an '89 Grandma Car big grin – after adding a different brand of oil to top it up, and driving it around in the middle of August, it started BURNING oil like crazy. I waited a very long time to change it, ashamedly, and by the time I actually did let out the old stuff, there was hardly anything there.

Filled 'er up with Valvoline Max Life, and she's been very good to me ever since. Nothing's gone wrong with the engine as of yet... so, seeing as I've run my car into the ground, and it's still goin' alright, I would say you're probably safe. smile

Chickenfat in the crankcase. Works every time (and keeps you from getting chest colds).

Jim, your engine is OK.
Just make SURE you never RUN OUT of oil!
Two quarts low is OK though...
