As you guys know FURY ROAD is my all time favorite film. And there's a theory out there that Tom Hardy is actually the feral kid from ROAD WARRIOR all grown up cosplaying Mad Max in FURY ROAD. I would kind of like it to be true, it would be a great twist, and make for a great FURY ROAD sequel. What are your thoughts?

I'm confused, wasn't Tom Hardy, Mel Gibson's character Max? If Hardy was a different character it would be an intriguing idea, but it wouldn't really be possible anyway.

Feral children can't be educated. A child's most important learning years are before the age of six. (or something like that) Even after a feral child is reintroduced into human society they don't have the ability to learn normal social behaviors, or even speak.

The feral kid was the narrator at the end of ROAD WARRIOR, and said he became the chief of the great northern tribe. FURY ROAD might take place before he became the chief, but after he was a child. The feral kid admired Max so much he took on his persona.

I totally forgot about that narrative and it's a big mistake. The feral kid could never learn to speak. razz

That’s just revisionist garbage like the people who say James Bond is a code name and each actor is playing someone different. Not only does it not stand to evidence but it exists solely because someone out there can’t deal with the fact they recast the role.

Any literary theory is valid as long as the text doesn't contradict the theory. So Gatsby could indeed be a black character who "passed" for white, and James Bond could be a code name - unless the narratives explicitly feature text to the contrary. This is the beauty of literature (and film). There can numerous equally valid interpretations.

What are your thoughts?

Love that theory because it also explains why Max's memory flashbacks are somewhat different to what we know from the original trilogy movies.

It's not a historical drama, it works well for the movies.

I agree! And there are a lot of feral kid references throughout the film too. Like I said, it would make for a great FURY ROAD sequel.

Roger Moore is standing above the grave of the woman who died in OHMSS in FYEO. The whole concept - even beyond the example cited - is childish bullshit made to remedy a need to change a detail in reality because of ego or stupidity. Full stop.

Right now I unfortunately only remember the music box !! What are the other references ? Thx.

On the other hand, if Max is the real Max the events of 'Fury Road' should happen between 'Mad Max' and 'Road Warrior' because the V8 is destroyed in 'Road Warrior', right ?

I'd love it if FURY ROAD was a sequel rather than a remake, and that the storyline would fit in with the three Gibson movies (perhaps even allowing Gibson a return to the role at a later point), but I doubt it.

More than one person can stand at a gravesite. Can you cite specific examples from the books or films that would explicitly contradict the theory?

But why would some other 007 agent be standing at Tracy's gravesite, looking sad??? That doesn't make any sense to me... confused

It may not make sense to you, but it is not strong enough to refute the theory.

Sorry for the late reply my friend.smileSome other references were a brief shot of Hardy getting a boomerang like the feral kid had when he went to fight the Bullet Farmer. Slit even refers to Hardy as a raging feral when he was a blood bag at the beginning. Hardy even grunts like the feral kid at the beginning of the film, and his hair was the same as the feral kid.

Wow, a boomerang ?? Have to look for that the next time I watch the movie.

There is this girl - maybe 10 years old - in Max's flashbacks and towards the end IIRC she says 'Dad' to Max. Wouldn't this really strongly suggests that Hardy is the feral kid ??
Maybe the northern tribe got attacked and he couldn't safe his loved ones ?
