GAME OF THRONES---the cast and crew comment on the incest between Jon Snow and Daenerys Targaryen in Season 8. Co-creator DB Weiss said, “From a dramatic standpoint, it makes things interesting. Because the story is no longer about who Jon’s parents are. It’s about what happens when Jon finds out.”
Kit Harington added, “Jon is someone who plays by the book. He cannot lie. Finding out about Dany would be very hard for him.”
Emilia Clarke said, “Daenerys’s lifelong dream has been to avenge her family and claim her rightful seat on the Iron Throne. She truly loves Jon. Were she to find out about his title, it would cut deep."
Also, the cast for the prequel pilot includes Naomi Watts, Josh Whitehouse, Naomi Ackie, Denise Gough, Jamie Campbell Bower, Sheila Atim and Ivanno Jeremiah. SJ Clarkson (THE DEFENDERS) is the director.

STAR TREK---showrunner Alex Kurtzman said the new Jean-Luc Picard tv series will have a drastically different Picard as demanded by Patrick Stewart, “He threw down an amazing gauntlet and said, ‘If we do this, I want it to be so different, I want it to be both what people remember but also not what they’re expecting at all, otherwise why do it?'”
Kurtzman said the series is set after STAR TREK: NEMESIS and the failed Romulus coup by Shinzon (Tom Hardy) and the destruction of Romulus in the 2009 STAR TREK, “Picard’s life was radically altered by the dissolution of the Romulan Empire”.

STAR TREK 4---Paramount Pictures shelved the sequel which is most likely connected to the stalled contract negotiations with Chris Pine and Chris Hemsworth.

THE NEW POPE---HBO released a photo showing Jude Law and John Malkovich.

GREEN LANTERN---Geoff Johns is reportedly writing the script for a reboot of the failed Ryan Reynolds superhero movie in which Hal Jordan is a disaffected astronaut who becomes a superhero.

GUNPOWDER MILKSHAKE---Karen Gillan stars in this all-female, multi-generational movie about assassins.

MISBEHAVIOUR---Suki Waterhouse will co-star with Keira Knightley, Greg Kinnear and Gugu Mbatha-Raw in this movie about the 1970 Miss World Pageant where Miss Grenada became the first black Miss World.

STARGIRL---Luke Wilson will play Pat Dugan in the DC Universe tv series.

HIGHTOWN---James Badge Dale and Monica Raymund star in this Starz tv series about two law enforcement officers who team up to investigate a drug-related murder in Cape Cod.

NYPD BLUE---Kim Delaney and Bill Brochtrup are returning for the reboot pilot in which NYPD cop Theo Sipowicz investigates the murder of his father, NYPD detective Andy Sipowicz.

TRIVIA---in AIRPORT, two sitcom actresses are among the passengers on Trans Global Flight 2. Pat Priest (THE MUNSTERS) is passenger Mrs. Jerry Copeland, who is sitting behind Helen Hayes, who won an Academy Award for playing the senior citizen stowaway. Marion Ross (HAPPY DAYS) is passenger Joan Myers.

In AIRPORT, Pat Priest (THE MUNSTERS) is sitting behind Oscar-winning Helen Hayes, and is shown with flight attendant Jacqueline Bisset and bomb-carrying Van Heflin.

Strike 1: Hiring Kurtzman.
Strike 2: Making the J.J. Rebootrams films canon and affecting the TNG universe. Some sequels have ignored other films in other films.
Strike 3: Picard is different because ... because!

Paramount never truly valued the Star Trek franchise. It got saddled with a dying, expensive series in 1968 and then reaped the rewards of syndication, putting off making new product because it didn't want it to "complete" with the syndicated run and cut back on their profits. Then the movies were a hit, but they never actually planned the films in long form. Always piecemeal. In fits and starts, which lead to protracted contract negotiations and last minute scripts.

Finally, they realized the Bad Robot films aren't as profitable as they'd like, but instead of just lowering the budgets and concentrating on making good Trek rather than huge-assed action blockbusters, they tried to renege on their contracted agreements with Pine. If Pine did that to get more money, they would have sued his ass up and down, but they pulled it and he called them on it. Good for him!

I will miss the movies because I loved the fact that the original characters were tearing up the screen again, even if recast. But Trek belongs on TV. Not All Access, but TV everyone can watch without paying extra fees. And it needs to be better than Discovery. Christ, I'm such a cranky old Trek fan. big grin

Scott, I agree with everything you said here. I don't think you are cranky, maybe old thoughsmile.

Anyway, yes, Paramount should have just cut these films back down in budget and scale, Trek has rarely been about action beats and huge visual effects. I still like TMP, which is basically a giant visual effects picture. But they arguable hit the stride with 2,3 and 4, which were all very modestly budgeted pictures, and they all did well.

I think that their avarice to make a blockbuster always pushed Paramount into making bigger films than they should. They learned this with Transformers recently, but it seems almost too late for Trek. But again, Trek is at home on television, long form, character based stories with ideas.

STAR TREK 4---Paramount Pictures shelved the sequel which is most likely connected to the stalled contract negotiations with Chris Pine and Chris Hemsworth.

Bullshit. Pine and some of the other cast mates were on a three film contract. Paramount doesn't want to renegotiate a new contract, so they'll just take the quicker, cheaper Tarantino project instead. Paramount as a company is almost dead, it's investors in China see this.

I mean, the Tarintino movie will likely suck as hard as a shelf of Ishtar VHS tapes but the fact it'll kill the Abrams/Bad Robot side of stuff is a personal pleasure. I hope part of his legacy is forever chained to the death of one of the greatest American studios.

feel the same way. I mean, I think the T project will probably be a mess, maybe somewhat interesting, but not the Trek most people want. But, I really do not get the contract stuff, unless they really only contracted these actors for a total of 3 films. But in the big picture, Paramount has spent way too much money on these films, the films cap out at about $300 million or so from global takes, which means the most they should spend is about $100 mil, and they have been spending a lot more than that.
