Scream Factory has officially announced and detailed its upcoming Blu-ray release of Joseph M. Newman's film This Island Earth (1955), starring Jeff Morrow, Faith Domergue, Lance Fuller, Robert Nichols, and Rex Reason. The release will be available for purchase on July 9.

Synopsis: When atomic scientist Dr. Meacham (Rex Reason, The Creature Walks Among Us) is chosen to take part in a top-secret research experiment in a remote lab, he quickly discovers that he is really involved in an evil scheme by alien Metalunans to take over Earth. After he and the gorgeous Dr. Adams (Faith Domergue, It Came From Beneath The Sea) make their escape shortly before the lab explodes, they are whisked away in a flying saucer to Metaluna, where they are blamed for the destruction. Will interstellar negotiation save the day or will the scientists be forced to take part in a treacherous battle to the death?

I did an extra-special music commentary on this release. About 30 minutes long, with tons of music samples. Thanks to Universal for letting me add a couple of things that I thought were needed...

Sadly I can't play US Blu-rays. Dvds yes, but not region locked Blu-rays.

Paul,
Thought about a region free player?

Oh yeah I am familiar with the concept. Just dragging my feet I suppose. Of the machines I've had I made sure they were all multi-region, and that's at least two dvd players and two Blu-rays but the latter were only multi-region for dvd. And then I hear Blu-rays need upgrading every so often, and there are problems (one person on this site having problems with a Blu-ray player) etc. Then there are all the streaming options, and is it worth any more investment in disc based formats...the list goes on!

I think I'm at an age where I'm slowing down on keeping up with the technology. It's passing me by. And I feel I'm slowing down on the collecting front. But the interest is still there so who knows?
