Count me in! This is another lovely score by the best ... variations on a wonderful, easily hum-ab main theme - a vinyl LP got a lot of plays. The CD I bought 20 years ago turned out to be an LP-transfer ... disappointing but better sounding than my own attempt.

I saw the film many years ago and found the first part (half?) somewhat flat - perhaps this was intentional, the story being seen from Michael Jayston's perspective - but then it changed and the second part (Topol's perspective) was far more engaging.

Move forward a few years and we were taking a short break in Berlin. On the hotel's TV I found a film I didn't initially recognise ... until the music played. As it was broadcast in German I didn't spend too long watching ... I hadn't expected to wait another 13 years for the opportunity to see it again.

This is bigger than you might realise.

Geoff clarified to me on Facebook just now that this ISN'T just another case of putting a music stem or music and effects track on the disc.

This, he clarified, is:

THE COMPLETE, UNEDITED MUSIC.

Fifty minutes of heyday John Barry film music, complete, as recorded, without the dips, cuts and fades you get on most isolated score tracks.

We thought we'd never get it.

We doubted the original film recordings still existed.

We thought a release from the album master was the best we could ever hope for and we doubted even that.

Well, soon we have this.

I'm in! I'd be up for a CD in addition, if anyone can do it.

Cheers

An excellent, quirky, catchy score that has elements of other Barry scores, but really has its own place. When is the CD coming?

I wonder if Network could release this on their CD label too. Guess they'll want sales of their BD to settle down first.

I may be being unkind here, but, it wouldn't surprise me if Harkit suddenly announce an upgrade to their Follow Me CD, like they upgraded their Breakfast At Tiffany's CD once Intrada did the licensing and leg work to get that film's complete score out. Network need to watch out that their work isn't exploited like that.

This release is most welcome.

Obscure as the respective movies may be, I'd still purchase decently produced CDs of "Boom", "Follow Me" and "The Tamarind Seed" without a second of thought. They are prime John Barry!

Extended versions of "Born Free", "Deadfall" and "Mary, Queen Of Scots" would also be very welcomed.

The isolated score is excellent; amazing to hear all the music without dialogue and sound effects interruptions! Yes, it would also make a fine CD, should that be possible, but in the meantime, the DVD/blu-ray is an essential purchase for all Barry fans.

Given the complete master recordings clearly exist, it would be a pity if no one prepared a proper, official CD.

I would buy two!

But until someone does that, I'll just extract the isolated score into my iTunes library.

And—Intrada, La-La-Land, Quartet, Music Box, if you're listening—I'll still buy two if you put it on CD.

Please do it before Harkit do it, I beg you. (I'll bet you they do, but ripping it straight off the DVD rather than going to the master recordings they would have no access to.)

Besides, think of all the poor American fans who haven't got multi-region DVD/Blu-Ray players.

Cheers

I can't believe I missed this thread when it originally posted in June. Wonderful news. This is Barry at his prime.

Geoff, does the isolated score contain the Universal fanfare as well as the "Hammer Horror" music?

Of course it's going to be a matter of personal taste whether you want to split out all the tracks or listen as a suite, and if you split them, how you want to name them is also a personal thing.

I chose to split out the tracks—and because of the lack of space between tracks on the disc, to avoid abrupt starts and finishes I needed to add about half-a-second at the start and end of each track, being careful to avoid sharp noise drop-offs.

I then titled the tracks in a way to remind me what's going on in the picture and this is what I came up with.

01—Universal Logo (0:17)
02—Meet Charles (0:29)
03—Charles' Marital Worries (0:13)
04—Main Titles—Follow Follow (1:48)
05—Looking For A Place To Eat (And Suddenly It All Happened) (1:16)
06—Unused—Probably First Restaurant Music (2:37)
07—Second Restaurant Music (2:59)
08—A Little Tactful Reform—Art Gallery (0:53)
09—Picnic And Walk (0:37)
10—This Is How You Dance? (3:26)
11—Unused—Probably First Version Of Falling In Love Embrace (0:32)
12—The House Party After The Wedding (3:57)
13—Home As The Marriage Begins To Settle (3:36)
14—Report On Her Movements—The Follow Begins (0:38)
15—Off Again—Follow Follow (3:25)
16—Hammer Horror (Brides of Dracula) (0:36)
17—She Sat By Herself? Yes, For Six Hours! (0:17)
18—Does She Have A Lover? (0:55)
19—Daydreaming That She Has A Lover (0:18)
20—More Daydreaming (0:06)
21—Melancholy Wandering (0:23)
22—Opera House Performance (0:22)
23—New Joys! And New Lovers? (4:04)
24—More Hammer Horror (0:54)
25—Following The Bus / Windsor Park (1:38)
26—More Following (1:15)
27—Now She Follows Him (1:33)
28—Dancing Source (1:12)
29—More Following and Hampton Court Maze (2:26)
30—I Don't Want To See You Again (0:31)
31—She Leaves Him (0:59)
32—Even More Hammer Horror (0:24)
33—Where Has She Gone?—They Look (1:01)
34—You Give Life—Look At The Life I've Given Him (2:41)
35—You Want Him Back—No, Forward (1:46)
36—Is That You? (1:09)
37—End Titles—Follow Follow (2:30)

Total length: 53:43.

It's worth saying that this programme does not seem to include the album track Some Party or the album version/mix/take of This Is How You Dance?, just the film version.

This tends to suggest those tracks/versions were recorded separately when the Japanese album was commissioned, but of course I can't be certain of that.

If you included those, you could add another 5:20 to the programme.

Cheers
