I've been listening to pop music lately on the "Music Choice" TV channels. They have no commercials and no DJ's, just continuous songs. I focus on three channels: the 50s-60s, 70s, and 80s.
You'd think I'd play their film music channel, but on that one I just find myself wishing they'd play what I already have on CD, which is pointless.
One advantage of a song-playing service like this, as opposed to your own playlists or streaming picks, is that you often hear songs you like but had totally forgotten. You'd never think to ask for them.
...but I think MC saw it and adapted, because most of the trivia now is about chart performance and when groups formed or disbanded. And there are very few facts per song, perhaps because of the negativity that got purged.
I really need to take advantage of this. I have a passive interest in 50's music, meaning I like it when I hear it. I wasn't into 70's music growing up and never listened to the radio. I was the geek listening to film music. But I think I would appreciate 70's music if I gave it a fair listen. 80's pop music is actually a guilty pleasure of mine though I admit that's when pop music started to decline.
