ASTÉRIX : LE SECRET DE LA POTION MAGIQUE
(ASTERIX: THE SECRET OF THE MAGIC POTION)
Original Motion Picture Soundtrack
Music Composed, Orchestrated and Conducted by Philippe Rom

Ref: MBR-165
Release Date: July 15, 2019

In collaboration with M6 Film and Cristal Groupe, Music Box Records is pleased to present on CD the original motion picture soundtrack of the French-Belgian animated feature film Asterix: The Secret of the Magic Potion (2019) composed, orchestrated and conducted by acclaimed composer Philippe Rombi (Merry Christmas, In the House, The Outsider).

After Asterix: The Mansions of the Gods in 2014, French composer Philippe Rombi reunites for the second time with the dynamic duo screenwriter Alexandre Astier and director Louis Clichy, on Asterix: The Secret of the Magic Potion, based on the comic book of Rene´ Goscinny and Albert Uderzo.

A fall during the picking of mistletoe led Druid Panoramix to make a decision: he will travel through Gaul with Asterix, Obelix and Pectin in search of a young talented druid to guarantee the future of the village and to transmit the secret of the magic potion.

Philippe Rombi provides an exhilarating and thematic orchestral score, offering a wide array of outdoor adventure and wondrous themes. HISTOIRE D'O (THE STORY OF O) (EXPANDED)
Original Motion Picture Soundtrack
Music Composed by Pierre Bachelet

Newly remastered and expanded edition.
8-page CD booklet with French and English liner notes by Nicolas Magenham.
Limited Edition of 500 units.

Ref: MBR-147
Release Date: July 15, 2019

In collaboration with Gruppo Sugar, Music Box Records presents the newly remastered and expanded edition of Pierre Bachelet’s score to the 1975 erotic drama film Histoire d'O (The Story of O), starring Corinne Cléry, Udo Kier and Anthony Steel.

Based on the best-selling novel written by Pauline Réage, this erotic tale of sexual dominance and submission was directed by Just Jaeckin (The Last Romantic Lover, Gwendoline), who was following his success as the creator of another softcore erotic film, Emmanuelle (1974).

Pierre Bachelet composed a dreamy score, with a stately and sinister main theme. The psychedelic score, arranged by Mat Camison, is a seductive combination of upbeat tracks, slow-motion Pink Floydian sounds and synthesized female vocalisms.

The greatly expanded score for The Story of O has been fully remastered from the recording session tapes and includes previously unreleased tracks. This present edition also features the song performed by lead actress Corinne Cléry and arranged by Daniele Patucchi, only previously released on 45RPM single record. The package includes an 8-page booklet with liner notes by Nicolas Magenham, discussing the film and the score. This is a limited edition of 500 units.

LA RONDE (CIRCLE OF LOVE) / LA CHASSE À L’HOMME (MALE HUNT) / À CŒUR JOIE (TWO WEEKS IN SEPTEMBER)
Three Original Motion Picture Soundtracks
Music Composed and Conducted by Michel Magne

World Premiere CD Release.
Remastered edition, including two orignal songs by David Gilmour.
8-page CD booklet with French and English liner notes by Nicolas Magenham.
Limited edition of 500 units.

Ref: MBR-158
Release Date: July 15, 2019

In collaboration with EMI Music Publishing and Warner Chappell Music France, Music Box Records is pleased to present on the same album three original motion picture soundtracks composed by Michel Magne and mostly unreleased on CD: La Ronde (Circle of Love, 1964), La Chasse à l’homme (Male Hunt, 1964) and À cœur joie (Two Weeks in September, 1967).

Between Angélique, Marquise des Anges and Fantômas, La Ronde, directed by Roger Vadim (And God Created Woman, Barbarella), stars Jane Fonda and Maurice Ronet. Heard for the first time over the beautiful credits created by Maurice Binder, Michel Magne’s main theme plays the card of a supreme and optimistic elegance, overtly imitating Mozart’s style, especially his concertos for piano. The score also features some several dance pieces (a flamboyant polka, a playful tango and some delightful waltzes). As a bonus, two other scores composed by Michel Magne and both dated from the 1960s, are also presented here for the first time on CD: La Chasse à l’homme directed by Édouard Molinaro and starring Jean-Paul Belmondo and À cœur joie directed by Serge Bourguignon and starring French film icon Brigitte Bardot.

This present edition features the same content as the original vinyl presentations and includes two original pop songs performed by Pink Floyd rocker David Gilmour and one previously unreleased track for À cœur joie. The CD comes with an 8-page booklet with liner notes by Nicolas Magenham, discussing the films and the scores.

I'm happy about all 3 releases.

As far as ASTERIX is concerned, I'd like to see a full release of the first three ASTERIX animated films.
ASTÉRIX LE GOULOIS(1967 - Asterix the Gaul) + ASTÉRIX ET CLÉOPÂTRA(1968 - Asterix and Cleopatra)
+ LES DOUZE TRAVOUX D'ASTÉRIX(1976 - The Twelf Tasks of Asterix) - all three films with scores by Gérard Calvi.
My 1996-Play-Time-sampler-CD has 5 tracks from the first film, 4 tracks from the second and 5 tracks from the third.
The LUCKY LUKE 3-CD-BOX-SET is one of my very appreciated CD release from Music Box Records and I hope since this release on a similar release of the first ASTERIX animated films trilogy.

As far as HISTOIRE D'O is concerned, it is not risky to speculate, that the release of the sequel HISTOIRE D'O - CHAPITRE 2 (1984) with the score of Stanley Myers and Hans Zimmer is also already in the release-pipeline of Music Box Records.
The fans and collectors of Hans Zimmer will probably be more pleased than those of Stanley Myers, as Hans Zimmer is now considerably more popular than his former teacher.
I'm sure it's causing the guys of Music Box Records a bit of a headache to set the right limit for this sequel release: 500 CDs? 1000 CDs? ... or more?

I myself do not give anything on such limitation numbers.
And if a CD title is sold out surprisingly quickly, then the CD labels should make as many CDs additional as they can sell.
That's good for the fans and good for the CD labels.
Fortunately, Music Box Records already has years of experience with such >> fast Sold-Out and additonal-releases or rerelease<< situations.

But first, of course, I'm excited about these latest three new CD releases.

For those who missed a video posted on our Facebook page.

Philippe Rombi conducted his first concert in Soisy (near Paris, France) on Friday 14 June 2019. Here's a short clip of the cue "Symphonic pop casting" from ASTERIX performed by the Bel'Arte Orchestra and conducted by the composer himself. Enjoy!

While I like Bachelet and consider Rombi to be one of our finest working composers, the Michel Magne release floors me. I'm especially excited about the inclusion of "Two Weeks in September," which I always assumed was lost. But "La Ronde" is essential for Magne fans, one of his very best.

The Rombi sounds interesting. I note some glimmers of Korngold's Prince and the Pauper in there.
