I don't know a Hoagie from a Hero, but I have learned there's a culinary minefield out there in some areas of the US, if you call a sandwich by the wrong name or the wrong maker.

Went out to lunch today with a bunch of friends. It was at a deli/restaurant. I knew what I was getting on the way over. Triglycerides be damned, ordered a hot pastrami on rye with mustard and a root beer and OH WAS IT GOOD.

The one time I visited NY, I went to the Carnegie Deli for lunch. Unfortunately, my friend and I went there straight from visiting Coney Island where we both rode one of those centrifugal things that spin you around and stick you to the wall by sheer gravitational force, so we both sat staring at our rich deli foods, our heads still spinning, with no appetites whatsoever.

Apparently, Jackie Mason was sitting at one of the other tables, but that may have been a rumor like the one another day there, this time near Times Square, where I came across a group of people standing around a staircase leading into a building because they had heard Christopher Walken was about to come back down, but I digress....

(while OBVIOUSLY disposing of the tomato, which I refuse to eat in its raw form anywhere except Italy)

I feel this way about lettuce (except that I don't like it in Italy either).

Ah, was reading just today about the potential Brexit effect on fresh tomato deliveries from Italy. They say they must be eaten within 10 days of picking and man what a circuitous route to go from point A to B.

If Brexit eventually happens we’ll have to learn to eat more seasonally. In itself I’m not sure that’s a bad thing.
