Craig Safan was the first composer hired to score the underrated mystical horror film "Wolfen"
Unfortunately, the film suffered post-production problems and problematic test test screenings. Director Micahel Wadleigh was let go and new filmmakers were brought on board to complete the film. Safan's chilling, avant-garde music went unused and James Horner was eventually hired to write a replacement score.
For this clip, I have remixed Safan's unused score back into two scenes with sound effects and dialogue for a glimpse at what could have been.
I was actually in touch with Safan through Facebook and he approved of my clip! How cool is that??
Both scores are great. Safan’s take was much more experimental and atonal. He cited Penderecki and Corgliano as influences.
Here’s what he had to say regarding my clip:
“ Hi. I really enjoyed seeing it. As you know it’s been many years! I still like the score... it was a tremendous challenge to write. No synths! Thanks! Craig”
He seems like a really nice dude.
I’m trying to see if there are any other scenes that still fit but it’s tricky.
