JOKER---director Todd Phillips said reports he is returning for a sequel are not true, “[Those reports] came out of nowhere. It referred to a meeting that was never had. I thought it was anticipatory at best. Obviously, sequels have been discussed when a movie that cost $60 million made $1 billion, but we have not had any serious conversations about it.”

RENFIELD---Dexter Royal (BOHEMIAN RHAPSODY) will direct this Universal Studios current day vampire movie about RM Renfield, Dracula's servant. The script is based on an idea by Robert Kirkman.

ROBOCOP RETURNS---Abe Forsythe (LITTLE MONSTERS) will direct the sequel to the 1987 Paul Verhoeven movie. Forsythe replaces the departed Neill Blomkamp.

THE MAN IN THE ROCKEFELLER SUIT---Yurgos Lanthimos (THE FAVOURITE) will direct this tv miniseries based on the book about Christian Karl Gerhartsreiter, who claimed to be a Clark Rockefeller, a lost descendant of the Rockefeller family, and was later convicted of murder.

KING LEOPOLD'S GHOST---Ben Affleck will direct this movie based on the book about Belgium's King Leopold II, who exploited the Congo Free State from 1885-1908, and those who who opposed him. Martin Scorsese is the producer.

NIGHTMARE ALLEY---Holt McCallany (MINDHUNTERS) will co-star with Bradley Cooper and Cate Blanchett in this Guillermo del Toro movie based on the novel.

GAME OF THRONES---Kristofer Hivju said HBO, "shot an alternative ending" for the controversial series finale, but he added it, "was mostly for fun but I don’t know if I’m allowed to tell you about that."

QUIBI---the streaming network has developed two new tv series. KILLING ZAC EFRON has Zac Efron trying to survive for three weeks in the jungle on a dangerous island. SWIMMING WITH SHARKS is a remake of the 1994 Kevin Spacey movie about a young female assistant working in a studio of manipulators.

MAYOR---Ted Danson and Holly Hunter will star in this untitled NBC comedy series about a wealthy Los Angeles businessman who runs for mayor for the wrong reasons and wins.

YELLOWJACKETS---Juliette Lewis and Christina Ricci star in this Showtime pilot about members of a high school girls soccer team 25 years after their plane crashed in the Ontario wilderness where they devolved into warring cannibalistic clans.

MAID---Netflix tv series underway based on the memoir MAID: HARD WORK, LOW PAY, AND A MOTHER'S WILL TO SURVIVE.

TRIVIA---before George Takei was the helmsman for the starship Enterprise in STAR TREK, he was the helmsman for the Japanese destroyer Amagiri that rammed John F. Kennedy's PT boat in the 1963 JFK biomovie PT 109. The movie starred Cliff Robertson, Ty Hardin and Robert Culp.

Thanks, dragon53!
I saw PT109 in the theater in '63 and it was great on the big screen. I enjoyed the special effects and thought they did a great job with the ramming scene, especially for that day. I have read that the actual collision hit at about the 1 or 2 o'clock position ("SHIP AT 2 O'CLOCK!") on the boat and that the destroyer sliced it from there to ~7 o'clock; like a person would whittle a piece of wood - more lengthwise than cross-sectionally (it looks closer to 3 o'clock to 9 o'clock in the scene).
A few years later after the debut of Star Trek, when PT109 showed on TV, I was amazed that "Mr. Sulu" was the helmsman and I got into a great argument with some friends whom didn't believe that he did the ramming.

How in the world di a director with only two films under his belt and a bunch of shorts, get to direct a Robocop film? How many cocks did he have to work to make that happen.

ROBOCOP RETURNS---Abe Forsythe (LITTLE MONSTERS) will direct the sequel to the 1987 Paul Verhoeven movie. Forsythe replaces the departed Neill Blomkamp.

Blomkamp will now move onto "Starship Toopers Redux," which will be a direct sequel to the original film, ignoring the other sequels. But then he'll drop out.

After that, Blomkamp will take on "Predator Again," which will be a direct sequel to the original film, ignoring the other sequels. But then he'll drop out.

And for 2021, Blomkamp will sign up for "Leathal Weapon Reloaded" which will be a direct sequel to the original film, ignoring the other sequels. But then he'll drop out.

I hear he learned his technique from Phillip Glass.

I also saw PT 109 in the theater. About a year ago, I heard a new, more realistic movie about PT 109, based on a new book I think, was underway, but I haven't heard anything new about it.

Let me guess... Bob Newhart wakes up with Emilia Clarke next to him in bed and says, "Honey, you won't believe the dream I just had."

For real. How many times are they gonna try and reboot these franchises? They're dead. Especially under the current creatively bankrupt Hollywood system.

Irvin Kershner already directed it. It was decent. I have the Shout Factory Blu-ray. It looks and sounds great.

There was also a third movie. It was largely fecal.

We don't need another.

Yeah, I would say that the R-rated demographic is a vastly untapped source of possible revenue.

How long have you been awake and aware in this millenium?
This is the age of the market for pretentious piss about third rate z-grade villains.

Now, that would be great! I'd love to see an update on PT 109 with actors more age-appropriate (some in the original were nearly twice the ages of the real crew), and a little less hero worship as well.

Thanks dragon53! smile

JFK went against protocol and bumbled his group into that whole mess. He would have been court martialed if his father hadn't intervened and had his pr-crew work overtime to get it spinned into the victory it wasn't.

Before everyone piles onto JFK--oops, too late--it does boggle the mind that the man was legitimately 4-F (medically unfit for military service), yet Joseph Kennedy had to use his influence to get Jack *into* the navy; you know, the *opposite* of what subsequent powerful and corrupt political people did---keeping their moron sons OUT of the military, or at least the shooting war.

I checked into the new PT 109 movie and found old articles from 2017 saying Ansel Elgort was starring in it, but that appears kaput now, so I guess the movie is still in the early development stage with no star.
