Ignore Function is for WIMPS!!!

Yes. I do all my ignoring the old-school way, manually, attentively, individually post for post.

Alright. I'm trying it. (Wince.)

Don't forget the vaseline.

It prevents you from seeing the posts of members on your ignore list, even when they are a thread starter. You'll see their name as thread starter but the first post you'll see is the first member who replies to that post. The members on your ignore list can still see your posts and comment about your posts. You can theoretically see ignored members posts if another member not on your ignore list "quotes" them in their own post.

That's what I thought. OK.

Now I'm going to have to put you on ignore for making me explain all of that!

Do what you must, I can then still see your posts. :-)

I see no virtue in never using the ignore button. I have plenty of spirited debates and arguments with members on here, even those who eventually end a debate with name calling. But if someone is clearly a troll or comes out of the gates with insults, on the ignore list you go! It's a tool to be used like any other.

I don't find virtue in not putting people on "ignore/block" either.

Knowing my luck if I pressed it, my own posts would disappear!

during the darkest day of Covid, there was a smallish group, 2-3 people that were full time misinformation agents, doubting Covid is real, doubting it is a killer, down playing vaccines. I did my good deed, smashing them down repeatedly with facts and science and that put it down to some degree, and they they started it again. I then put them on ignore. They were, are, incorrigible.

Sure, I agree with trying to get along and I don't immediately put someone on ignore if their very first post towards me "appears" hostile. I try to win them over with my impeccable charm.

I currently have 5 names on my ignore list. 3 of those names are for the same person, who periodically came back under different usernames. Suppose I could delete them now, but I'll keep them there just in case. The others are for two active members. One will stay there until the end of time, the other might be possibly be 'unmuted' in the future, I haven't decided yet.

As others, I mostly ignore by will, I don't put people on the list nillywilly just because of some minor annoyance. But in some extreme cases, I must, in order to make a stay here worthwhile.

More often than not, I find putting people on ignore is more of a hassle than a benefit. It makes the conversation confusing as to who is actually saying what.

Not to mention they always say, "Keep Your Friends Close and Your Enemies Closer".

Not that I can remember. I try to willfully ignore some of your cynicism and feel relief when you post something positive.
