Still have this great LP in my collection. Always loved Chacksfield's takes on great movie themes and I particularly loved the Beautiful Blue KING OF KINGS Front of the album on this one.
My faves are his takes on Samson and Delilah, Quo Vadis, The Robe and King of Kings!
Yes, that is an enjoyable album (though the Dutton Vocalion CD release does sound a little off ...) I've bought several of his albums these last few years, though never took to his easy-listening arrangements when I was young ... my father had a few of his recordings on Readers' Digest compilation LPs.
Chacksfield recorded a strong, unusual version of Jacques Loussier's The Mercenaries on his 1968 album Film Festival. However, his arrangement of Morricone's Il buono, il brutto, il cattivo: Main Title is less good
He was one of the great names in British Light Music during the 1950s and 60s - his 1954 recording of Robert Maxwell's Ebb Tide was a big hit. Mitch
Good to see Frank getting some love on the board. I've always been a huge fan of his movie theme albums; my favourite being The Victors & Other Themes. His version of "My special dream" is just scrumptious!
I agree about the sound on the Dutton Vocalion CD of King Of Kings. In fact, most of that label's Chacksfield reissues were very disappointing sound-wise with all the warmth and sparkle of the original recordings severely reduced.
I hate to be a wet blanket, but for me the link leads to "VIDEO UNAVAILABLE."
It was working earlier this morning when I posted it. But youtube has been hit and miss for me with posting links.
Try it again Preston. Seems to be working now. They seem to have added a letter to the link from earlier and I added it. Let me know if you can see it. Thanks.
Bingo! Many thanks. I well remember seeing that LP album cover in my local record store. I think I'll enjoy finally listening to it. (I take it this LP is still not available on CD?)
