Hot damn this sucker on Waxwork is gorgeous:

https://waxworkrecords.com/collections/vinyl/products/john-carpenters-the-thing-and-lost-cues-bundle

Pre-orders up now. Ships May 5.

One full bundle with Morricone's score and Carpenter's "lost cues" (rerecorded by Carpenter, his son, and Daniel Davies) together, or separate releases if you please.

Not sure if this portends a possible CD/digital release as well?

A CD hasn’t been released since the first release of this by Waxworks

When did they release a CD of this?? I must have missed that. frown

Sorry, maybe I wasn’t clear. My point was Waxworks released this Vinyl a couple years ago and since that first pressing nobody has released CD.

Oh ok. I wonder if there's some kind of licensing agreement that prevents them from doing CD. Perhaps records are harder to "rip" or duplicate plus their quality isn't what CDs are.... even a digital download would be nice. This is one of my holy grails as far as a complete recording but I'm not buying the LP nor a record player for it....

I’m in the same boat. I’d love to have it, but I just don’t care about vinyl at all. And there are a number of Vinyl-only releases that I would kill to have on CD or digital “Don’t Go In The House”, “Cruising” and “CHUD” just to name a few.

I have the 2015 Cd of "Cruising" Hybrid SACD Audio Fidelity.

I’m referring to the deluxe edition from a few years back that also included the complete score

David, this is not the original recording, but an excellent rendition, EM+JC:

https://alanhowarth.com/product/the-thing/

1 Main Title (1:45)
2 Main Theme - Desolation (4:29)
3 Humanity 2 (2:42)
4 Despair (4:46)
5 Humanity (6:51)
6 Shape (3:18)
7 Burn It (1:27)
8 Solitude (5:32)
9 Fuchs (2:27)
10 To Mac's Shack (2:52)
11 Wait (6:21)
12 Sterilization (3:42)
13 Eternity (5:26)
14 Contamination (1:01)
15 Bestiality (2:55)
16 Main Theme - End Credit (4:34)

Total length: 1:01:05

I don't think they actually re-recorded the orchestral Morricone score but it is rather a a mock-recreation with samples?

Yes it is indeed and for that reason, I don't care for this release. Some people do miracles with sampled orchestra but that in of itself is almost a separate discipline. It takes hours upon hours to achieve anything reasonably close but sampled strings still don't compare with the real thing and as good portion of Morricone's score is scored for strings, it just doesn't translate very well to sampled versions.

The original album release is available as a digital download in 16bit/44khz quality. Here is the link: https://www.qobuz.com/us-en/album/the-thing-ennio-morricone/t43vw79shvjtb
