There is something about end of 1950s-into-60s b&w jobs filmed on location in cities here in the States (mostly New York, I suppose) and in Europe that hold a fascination that I've never quite been able to define. I'm talking Rocco, The Entertainer and One, Two, Three, for instance. Will save it for another day and another thread. In the meantime, the one filmed in Milan that I watched last night is reaching the haunting stage, earlier characterizations notwithstanding. Damned if I can figure it out, except, like the title character, I have four brothers and am smack dab in the middle, too. Two in front, two behind. That aspect alone adds a touch of color to the film-viewing proceedings, in retrospect.
