TUESDAY, AUGUST 12 MULAN---new trailer released for the Disney+ remake movie. LINK: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bJbAZh3fv0g THE WINDS OF WAR---Seth McFarlane is developing a miniseries based on the Herman Wouk World War II novel, “I can’t think of a more exciting project with which to launch my creative partnership with UCP than Herman Wouk’s THE WINDS OF WAR, I’ve been a devoted fan of Wouk’s WWII epic for decades, and its depiction of small-scale human endurance in the face of large-scale global upheaval has never been more relevant than it is today. In my very first meeting with [UCP president] Dawn Olmstead, we connected over this project — I learned that she herself comes from a Naval family — and to bring it to fruition under her stewardship and that of her UCP team will be a perfect fit for all. We can’t wait to get started.” The original 1983 ABC miniseries starred Robert Mitchum, Ali McGraw, Jan-Michael Vincent and Polly Bergen. FORBES HIGHEST-PAID ACTORS---FORBES released its annual list of highest-paid actors. 1. Dwayne Johnson--$87.5 million 2. Ryan Reynolds--$71.5 million 3. Mark Wahlberg--$58 million 4. Ben Affleck--$55 million 5. Vin Diesel--$54 million 6. Akshay Kumar--$48.5 million 7. Lin-Manual Miranda--$45.5 million 8. Will Smith--$44.5 million 9. Adam Sandler--$41 million 10.Jackie Chan--$40 million FEAR STREET---Netflix acquired the movie trilogy based on the RL Stine books with a premiere in the summer of 2021. THE BABY---HBO comedy horror series described as, "'When 38-year-old Natasha is unexpectedly landed with a baby, her life of doing what she wants, when she wants, dramatically implodes. Controlling, manipulative, and with violent powers, the baby twists Natasha’s life into a horror show. Where does it come from? What does it want? And what lengths will Natasha have to go to in order to get her life back? Terrifying and darkly comic THE BABY gleefully deconstructs the “joy of motherhood,” exploring the powerful anxiety of whether or not to have children, questioning who gets to choose “motherhood” and who doesn’t. She doesn’t want a baby. The baby wants her."' BATWOMAN---Ruby Rose commented on leaving BATWOMAN, “Being the lead of a superhero show is tough. [Laughs] Being the lead in anything is tough. But I think, in that particular instance, it was a lot more difficult because I was still recovering from my surgery. I had my surgery and then 10 days later I went to work, which maybe wasn’t the best idea. Most people take about a month or three off before they return to work, so it was definitely made more difficult by that…I love my experience in [BATWOMAN]. I’m so grateful that we got to achieve everything that we did and I’m proud of everyone that worked on it. I’m proud of myself for working under sort of interesting circumstances, you know, with the recovery and all. I would definitely do [TV] again. I just think that it was also time for me to take a break to fully heal and then return.” MY SPY---a sequel with Dave Bautista and Chloe Coleman returning is being discussed. TRIVIA---Peter Hyams directed movies including BUSTING, CAPRICORN ONE, OUTLAND and RUNNING SCARED. With tongue-in-cheek, Hyams commented on his film career accomplishments, "No AFI Lifetime Achievement Award, no Oscars. However, I think I'm the only director who ever had two leading men formally tried for the first degree murder of their wives which is Robert Blake and OJ Simpson. It's not much, except it's something." Robert Blake co-starred with Elliott Gould in BUSTING. Blake was tried and acquitted in the murder of his wife, Bonnie Lee Blakely. He was later found responsible for her murder in a civil court. OJ Simpson co-starred with Elliott Gould and James Brolin in CAPRICORN ONE. Simpson was tried and acquitted in the murders of his wife, Nicole Brown Simpson, and Ron Goldman. He was later found responsible for their murders in a civil court. No Tom Cruise in the highest paid actors?! Yes, I find that interesting and am wondering what goes into their determination of their revenue? As in, I assume, does it include royalties, residuals and salaries? Because with the except of Dwayne Johnson, none of these others have a sizable hit and haven't had so in years. But then again, we are kind of kept in the dark here in the U.S. when it comes to overseas markets and hits. But Cruise has had a huge success with the Mission Impossible movies and while The Mummy was a bust, am curious again how it did overseas and with his new Top Gun showing a lot of both promise and a buzz of interest, I'm very surprised that he is not in the top 10, no pun intended.

I'm also surprised Tom Cruise isn't on the list. His popularity plummeted after the whole Oprah sofa event but he's rebounded into a major box office draw the last ten years. I can see the Rock being on this list. I'll never understand what Mark Wahlerg is doing on any top ten list unless its for most boring actor. WTF? Will Smith is a surprise too, seems his glory days are long gone. Lin-Manuel Miranda is the guy who wrote Hamilton. As to why he is on this list, your guess is as good as mine as I don't know of any movies he's done other than Moana and that Mary Poppins sequel from a few years ago.

There was a run of Peter Hyams, from the late 70's to the 80's, where I loved his films. Capricorn One, Outland, Star Chamber, 2010, Running Scared. All great to me. Sure, there were some duffers (Hanover Street, Presidio) during that time, but I really looked forward to his films back then.

Are you sure that's not the cast of The Love Boat? Huh. Never realized till now how much Lisa Eilbacher resembles Jill Whelan.
