Giacchino mentioned he that he's scoring five movies this year, three of which have already been announced. He's not scoring Doctor Strange 2 or Matrix 4, so maybe he's on this?
Last month, Dan Romer (Beasts of the Southern Wild, Beasts of No Nation, Maniac, Wendy) has recorded his score for Pixar’s upcoming animated feature Luca. The film is directed by Enrico Casarosa (La Luna) and features the voice talent of Jacob Tremblay, Jack Dylan Grazer, Emma Berman, Maya Rudolph, Marco Barricelli and Jim Gaffigan. The movie is set in a beautiful seaside town on the Italian Riviera and tells the coming-of-age story about one young boy experiencing an unforgettable summer filled with gelato, pasta and endless scooter rides. Andrea Warren (Lava, Cars 3) is producing the Pixar Animation Studios production. Luca will premiere on June 18, 2021 exclusively on Disney+.
Romer also continues to score The CW’s Superman & Lois, ABC’s The Good Doctor and Netflix’s Atypical and co-score Hulu’s Ramy and second season of HBO Max’s Love Life.
Very surprised Giacchino didn't score this one or "Soul", given his previous collaboration with both directors, as well as his usual ties with Pixar. Hope there wasn't any falling out between them.
MG's current schedule doesn't look like it had conflicts with either of these movies. He is not awfully busy these days either - at least not compared to how he used to work.
Pandemics safe keeping? Perhaps. But, umm, I don't know why, but I am having this hunch that MG might be attached to something like the Amazon Lord of the Rings project. Something of that magnitude could be taxing enough for a composer to clear up all his schedule for a long time.

Or maybe it's just that Pixar wanted to work with Trent Reznor & Atticus Ross on "Soul" and Dan Romer on "Luca"

I am glad he didn't score this one or Soul. Disney finally branching out.

I read somewhere that Ennio Morricone was originally to compose the score, but of course, he passed away. Would have loved a Morricone/Pixar collaboration. The trailer sure has the look and feel of Italy.
I've only heard his Superman & Lois score (which I find amazing!). He sounds like a very melodic composer. Which I love! So will be checking this one out

If you like melody Acathla, also check out Dan's "Wendy" score.
It doesn't look like the orchestral theme from the second trailer is part of the soundtrack; the piece that kicks off when Luca is running on the planet's rings. Anyone know what that song is? Thanks!

Thanx for the tip! I need to check out more of his works
I've heard his music every week while watching The Good Doctor over its past 4 series and you can tell it's him. It's got that same midi-based orchestra sound. His music is quite tuneful and melodic but always sounds programmed to me, like it was written inside a box. There's no spaciousness to it. It doesn't breathe. It's very synthetic sounding. Pleasant, but unremarkable to me.
