I'm watching COLUMBO on MeTV, the 1972 episode "Greenhouse Jungle," and during a car driving scene the music starts in with these cool jazz bongos and jaunty violins. And I said, "Is that Oliver Nelson?" Went to imdb, and it was! It was a sound that would evolve into THE SIX MILLION DOLLAR MAN, and lay down permanent tracks in my evolving brain.

It reminds me of the time I channel surfed some western, probably SHERIFF WHO, and caught a lively, bustling "travel music" cue for a horse-drawn buggy on a dusty road. It sounded exactly like bustling Gotham City on BATMAN. Sure enough, it was by Nelson Riddle.

I just listened to a clip from the Planet of the Apes TV show soundtrack and heard a little high-pitched piano play a couple of suspense notes and then some high-pitched violins with a droning synth and thought “it sounds exactly like Dirty Harry”.

And then I double-checked to confirm they’re both Lalo Schifrin and they are, so that’s that.

Sample is up on LLL to check - it’s the track “Urko/Galen”.

Jerry Fielding. There’s a moment in The Enforcer that is lifted right from Demon Seed (or the other way round)
