I've just noticed that Varese has started selling some of their releases on Bandcamp. If you're not familiar with it, Bandcamp is a site that sells downloads (and some physical formats) basically artist direct, allowing people to name a price and download the files in a variety of formats (VBR MP3, 320 MP3, FLAC, ALAC, AAC, Ogg Vorbis, WAV and AIF).

In Varese's case they seem to be offering the items with a $9.99 minimum price, but anyone feeling generous could pay more for each album as a "tip." Each track can be purchased separately for $1. Bandcamp also allows unlimited redownloads of purchased music, so you can switch formats if you like. I've had a great experience getting video game music from them, and a few film scores as well, so if you can deal with the digital format and limited selection this may be up your alley.

I also recommend just flat out exploring Bandcamp for movie and game music, there's a lot of cool stuff exclusive to it and a lot of great artists like Austin Wintory have a good presence there.

Here's what Varese has so far:

47 Meters Down: Uncaged - https://varesesarabandedigital.bandcamp.com/album/47-meters-down-uncaged-soundtrack
Greenland - https://varesesarabandedigital.bandcamp.com/album/greenland-soundtrack
Honest Thief - https://varesesarabandedigital.bandcamp.com/album/honest-thief-soundtrack
The Hills Run Red - https://varesesarabandedigital.bandcamp.com/album/the-hills-run-red-soundtrack
John Wick - https://varesesarabandedigital.bandcamp.com/album/john-wick-soundtrack
John Wick 2 - https://varesesarabandedigital.bandcamp.com/album/john-wick-2-soundtrack
John Wick 3 Parabellum - https://varesesarabandedigital.bandcamp.com/album/john-wick-3-parabellum-soundtrack
Knight Rider - https://varesesarabandedigital.bandcamp.com/album/knight-rider-tv-soundtrack
Rise of the Planet of the Apes - https://varesesarabandedigital.bandcamp.com/album/rise-of-the-planet-of-the-apes-soundtrack
The Running Man - https://varesesarabandedigital.bandcamp.com/album/the-running-man-deluxe-edition-soundtrack

Happy to see this.

I'm a big fan of Bandcamp since a lot of artists I follow have released music that simply isn't available or easy to find at reasonable prices. And to add, there is no upcharge for any of the lossless formats.

Hoping to see more of this from other labels.

Kinda surprised they CAN sell these on Bandcamp, honestly. But yeah, Bandcamp is a great site.

Count me as a Bandcamp fan too. It's my first go-to for finding lossless soundtracks, scores, and most music in general. I would say Bandcamp has fewer film scores with more of an emphasis on television and video game soundtracks. I'm still very much a physical CD guy but if there's no other option, I'm checking Bandcamp.

I'm in the military and my workplace is in a secure facility where mobile devices aren't allowed. On top of that, many music sites are blocked on the military network. Bandcamp is one of a handful sites that aren't blocked and has been a God-sent.

I feel that soundtracks for older or lesser known shows would be perfect for Bandcamp. e.g.- Knight Rider.
I'm always up for a bit of nostalgia when it comes to the shows and movies from my childhood.

Why Should I pay for buying a record when I can listen to the same music for free, on Bandcamp?
Great move, Varese: no more money from my pocket! ^^

Joking aside, if you listen to it too many times for free they will hit you with a nag screen big grin But I find the ability to sample the whole album very useful, FWIW.

Gone in quantity or just down completely? What's going on, is Varese doing ok?

You can only listen free for a few times. Then it asks you to purchase.

It would be perfect for some of those scores that have only been released on LP

I wonder if "varesesarabandedigital" was really the Varèse we know or some user who has sold illegal stuff over Bandcamp and Varèse has axed him. Not only the releases are gone, but the user "varesesarabandedigital" is gone, too. Everyone can now use this name again, by the way.

Hard to say. I wouldn't be shocked. We'll probably never know unless they were actually legit and try again after clearing whatever legal issues there were (of course if they weren't, they simply won't show up there and we'll still never know which).
Of course, unless there's someone on this board who actually works there and has a way to find out.

Badcamp, Spotify, it's the same You are right.
I will never buy again a cd or a record if its music is online for free on spotify / badcamp / whatelese
If editors let me to choice for a free listening, I will do a free listening.
And no more money to them. Authors of this slagged new music world will be very happy, don't they?
