I have been looking for an up to date price guide for film and show soundtracks. Some years back I purchased Osborne's guide at a local bookstore, but I haven't seen anything in a long time. (I found several online, but they were either out of stock or outrageously priced.) Can anyone recommend if there are any newer guides available or is this a lost cause. Thanks.
Printed guides are probably outdated before they reach the shelves. One source of current prices is the Discogs website (which is also a marketplace), which will show stats like this for a given release:
If you haven't done this already, you can go to eBay, search soundtrack CDs and select "Sold items." That will display all the listings actually sold within the past 60 days -- and their final prices. (Instances where a seller accepted an undisclosed final price will be marked; but you'll see what the original price asked by such a seller was.)
