I finally listened to this tonight. The closest approximation I have to compare this score (at its best moments) to is Chu Ishikawa's music for the Japanese film Tetsuo: The Iron Man. Really noisy cyberpunk industrial; almost punk rock in its disregard for your ears. I'll see the movie eventually but I cannot imagine it is anything like Tetsuo: The Iron Man.
I loved it. Except Balfe whifs it on the emotional material, however. He can be quite a boring composer when spinning the wheels of Hollywood's demands.
