I just got this Varese disc in the mail yesterday. I only knew about it recently. Such great playing from the composer and beautiful, touching music. Anyone else have it?
Bruce Rowland is probably the most underrated composer – ever! His music is beautiful; romantic… everything that John Williams can do… so can Bruce Rowland.
Most people love – “The Man From Snowy River” – and – obviously that is the score that needs a proper expansion… However; the music for the sequel: “Return To Snowy River” – (The Man From Snowy River II) – is undoubtedly even better.
I love the new theme – “Gathered To The Fray” – it is sort of like what John Barry did with his 007 Theme… an expansion on the main theme! Then you also have – “Back To The Mountains” – a brand new theme – an expansion on – “The Mountain Theme” – from the first film!
Bruce Rowland’s music is exquisite.

This is an extremely joyful Album, and gets repeated plays. Living in Melbourne, I have the opporunity to visit the locations used for the Man From Snowy River films, including Merrijig, Craigs Hut and around Mt Magdala.
A remastered, complete 2CD set of both scores would be brilliant.
