UNIVERSAL MONSTERS---Jason Blum said he is working on more reboots of the Universal monster movies, "We have two or three we're developing. They're not yet announced, so I can't talk about them. But the status with Universal monsters is no different than it's ever been. Universal is in charge of the Universal monsters. But we've come up with a few ideas that they've liked for a few of their other ones. And hopefully, we'll turn those into movies."
The only announced reboot is THE WOLF MAN starring Ryan Gosling.
HALLOWEEN KILLS---Jamie Lee Curtis commented on if she will return for another HALLOWEEN movie, "I would probably say no, to you just here, just to be honest with you."
MAFIA MAMA---Toni Collette and Monica Bellucci will star in this comedy movie about a American housewife who discovers her late grandfather was the leader of the Mafia in Southern Italy and wants her to be his successor.
THE FALL OF THE HOUSE OF USHER---director Mike Flanagan commented on the Netflix horror series based on the Edgar Allan Poe short story, “A lot of the stuff I do is a slow burn. THE FALL OF THE HOUSE OF USHER is a brush fire. It is an explosion. It is as aggressive and rock ‘n roll and over the top and just violent and insane and horrific as anything I have ever done… by a lot. We’re gonna pull all the all stars from the Intrepid group of actors and some great new faces and we’re just gonna f*cking jam.
We want just buckets of blood pouring out of the ceiling on page two. And we’re just gonna go ballistic. And we’re gonna do it all to the music of one of the most intensely effective gothic horror writers. This is what we’ve been craving. A chance to just go ballistic on something.
The entire catalogue of Poe is wide open. It’s all public domain. We can cherry pick whatever we want and put it into one giant, crazy, heavy metal riff that’s just blood-soaked and wild. In a sense, we get to blow off steam after five very emotional years. And it lets me play in a corner of the genre I haven’t gotten to play in in a long time. It’s a relief really. It’s fun to have fun.”
ELLEN---Lin Shaye (INSIDIOUS) will star in this miniseries about a greedy developer who tries to run an 80 year-old widow off her Montana ranch.
HELEN & TEACHER---Millicent Simmonds (A QUIET PLACE) and Rachel Brosnahan (THE MARVELOUS MRS. MAISEL) will star in this biomovie about Helen Keller her translator Anne Sullivan. The synopsis is, "Set during the early 1900’s, the movie will follow Keller’s tumultuous time at Radcliffe College of Harvard University when her rapidly expanding worldview and sexual awakening brings her into direct conflict with the more conservative Sullivan. When Ms. Sullivan is courted by the young and brilliant publisher, John Macy, tensions escalate between the two women threatening the bonds of their friendship."
VOIR---David Fincher/Netflix docuseries described as a, “collection of visual essays for the love of cinema”.
TOM CLANCY'S JACK RYAN---Amazon renewed the series for Season 4.
TRIVIA---Michael Caine commented on starring in THE SWARM, the disaster movie that was a box office disaster and considered to be one of the worst movies ever made, "When I did THE SWARM, I had just got to America, and I didn't have much money, and house prices had gone up. So I did THE SWARM for a house. My criteria have changed now---I have a house, you see. I have two houses, as a matter of fact."

This is one of the saddest, most desperate attempts to curry interest I have ever read.
I'm sure it will be a big hit with viewers who have never opened a book and raised on Rob Zombie.
Just a feeling.
That's actually exactly how Poe psyched himself up when he sat down to write House of Usher. "This is gonna be so rock 'n roll. Time to f*cking jam."

Yeah, I also thought 'who are you trying to convince, Mr Flanagan, us...or yourself?' when I was reading that.
Agreed. Just reading that statement, it seems obvious that he entirely misses the essence of Poe. I’ll take the Roger Corman Poe films over whatever dreck he’s planning to make from Usher.

I am a huge fan of the Universal Monster films and watch them every year at this time. I'm totally on board for remakes but man, make them fun and assign legit directors with a track record to helm them, people who aren't under the thumb of the star.

Well it says a lot to me that my favourite moment of the last version of The Wolf Man, was the bit where the WM ran along the rooftops and howled at the moon. I sadly only saw it at home on my very first Blu ray. If I'd been at the cinema I'd have howled along with him! Forget the bloody stuff, it's moments like that that do it. To me that moment was like an amalgam of both the Chaney Jr Wolf Man and the Hammer Oliver Read (Curse of the) werewolf. Totally hit the spot.
So, naturally when it comes to the originals they will always tower over any crap made or 'remade' now because the folks making them lose sight of what made the originals so nice. It's not tons of cgi spectacle we want, but personality and character.
You have to ask yourself what made these people fans of the original when it doesn't seem to come out in their own version?

Ah, On Deadly Ground is on TCM (UK) this Wednesday, an enjoyable guilty pleasure (as are most Steven Seagal films), I've just set it to record.
