Betty Lynn, who played Thelma Lou, Deputy Barney Fife's girlfriend on "The Andy Griffith Show" for its first five seasons but came back for an episode when Barney visited Mayberry, only to his dismay when he found out she got married (but would marry her in the reunion television film "Return To Mayberry") has died at age 95. That leaves Ron Howard as the only surviving cast member of the series.
RIP, Ms. Lynn. I had a great crush on her when I was a kid. Her eyes were so full of expression and life. I understand she was a great person. I've visited a customer of my employer over the years in Mt. Airy, where she lived her last years and I always hoped that by chance I would meet her there at some restaurant or someplace as she was known to be seen around town. Sadly for me, that never happened.
Actually, Ron's younger brother Clint was on the show as Leon, the little boy in the cowboy outfit that always had a peanut butter and jelly sandwich in hand, which he would offer to whomever he was interacting with. The usual reply was "No thanks, Leon". But it is correct that Ron is the last surviving main character.
