One of the joys of 1962 was this score by Max Steiner for a romantic romp through Rome, Italy, with Suzanne Pleshette and Troy Donahue.

The movie is a lightweight romantic melodrama but has a glorious score and a really nice song called "Al Di La".

This was one of my most-played albums, and it remains a wonderful listening experience. Happily, FSM issued the soundtrack on CD.

This is a lovely score, especially the main love theme. Also love the song Al Di La.

Good girl brunette vs. bad girl blonde.

It is pretty amazing that about 30 years before this score, Steiner composed King Kong. He was a composer for all movie genres.

Hey Ron, there is a new biography (2020) about Steiner called: Music By Max Steiner-The Epic Life of Hollywood's Most Influential composer by Steven C. Smith. We even had a topic here at FSM discussing the book. It was very interesting and illuminating. It does a fine job of analyzing of many of his scores.

Ron, in my office waiting room, I often play my favorite selections from the lush ROME ADVENTURE paired with the melodic PARRISH when I'm in the mood for two modern Steiner gems.

Joan, I'm about one-third through Stephen Smith's Steiner biography; I'm just into the middle-1930s. It's an excellent film music history of one of our film music geniuses. Highly recommended for film music history fans(of which I am most definitely one). The early chapters deal with the childhood experiences that led this prodigy on the road to film music composer.

Warners did a score preservation gig in the early 1990s at Chace Productions.
sadly, items were sent back to the studio and then lost.
two items were in stereo, complete - Max Steiner's Spencer's Mountain and Rome Adventure.
