In 1965, 20th Century-Fox's roadshow of Carol Reed's "The Agony and the Ecstasy" had a score by Alex North. It also had a prologue - "The Artist Who Did Not Want To Paint" - that was played during exclusive roadshow presentations.
This prologue is a short companion focusing on the sculpture of Michelangelo. After a short visit to Caprese, where the artist was born, and the town where he first studied his craft, we see many of his most important works.
The entire film score plays wonderfully as a coherent concert piece. It's a splendid composition. Would make a great companion piece on recordings of Mussorgsky's Pictures of an Exhibition, for example. :-)
