Now this is one score you CAN dance to.

I've loved this score from the minute I first heard it.
Pure Maurice Jarre.
He had a unique style, that's for sure.
Some of us LOVE IT!! Others...it seems to grate with them.
Any other fans out there?

I've always loved his south of the border scores, though most were for westerns. This is a delightful score that I still just have on LP. I'll upgrade one of these days.

Definitely Jarre's funkiest score and one of his most enjoyable albums. The big orchestra and smaller Latin ensemble really gelled. Even Jarre detractors tend to like this score.

It's on my Discogs wantlist for a reason.

Had this on LP, loved it but forgot all about it until you mentioned it in the other thread and have just bought a copy of the cd on eBay for £20! Thank you Kev!

You're welcome Brendon.
It's such an infectious score.
It's only 30 minutes in length - on album - and I'm not mad about the Bobby McFerrin style vocal track (5, I think), but the whole thing just whizzes by and you can easily lose weight too, while you're listening to it wink

It's funny. I was testing out a cassette player the other day that I had inherited and the first one I grabbed to try out on the player was Jarre's Moon Over Parador. It is an infectious score with a nice melody, but the one Latin flavored Western favorite has always been The Professionals.

I remember a friend of mine buying this around 1990 because he was a fan of Jean Michel Jarre.

I think he played it once.

I love his stuff like this. Jarre for some reason appeals most to me in his more “recent” work, i.e. the 80s and 90s, more so than his iconic standouts for David Lean way back when. Those are great too but he seemed to relax and have more fun later in his career.

An infectious theme can truly make a movie.

Do they still write 'em?

Can't think of anything recently ...

The Emma score from 2020 was very catchy, witty, and a joy to listen to.

The liner notes don't cite an orchestrator. All Jarre's doing then? If so, lovely job.

Not a big Jarre fan, but there are a few I like and enjoy and this is one of them. Movie was fun and I got a kick out of Richard Dreyfuss and Sammy Davis Jr.

Most Jarre offerings are a hard listen for me, but a few that I do like, include:

MOON OVER PARADOR
JESUS OF NAZARETH
THE LAST TYCOON

Of course DR. ZHIVAGO and LAWRENCE OF ARABIA are Big, Epic Classics with great themes.

Also enjoyed his "Building the Barn" music for WITNESS.

They may borrow them.

Can't remember the credits, but if Patrick Russ was credited as "Assistant to Mr. Jarre" he was the orchestrator.

Russ is indeed credited as "Assisted by Pat Russ".

Jarre runs hot and cold with me. I dislike a lot of his music, but when I like it I REALLY like it. Parador is one that I have liked since I first heard it.

I love this score, but have never had it. What is the suite above? It is from the OST? Or a concert arrangement? If so, is it commercially available anywhere?

The 10 minute suite linked is edited from the original MCA release (LP/cassette/CD).
It's only available now on the secondary market.
There is a concert version available on a Jarre CD collection, running about 5 minutes (I think).
