A pretty big box set of music from several of his films is coming in November. Follow the link for photos, info and to pre-order it. I just did via Amazon.com UK. This will be a 73 track multiple LP release or a 74 track CD set.

No score cues are included, but some tracks from Uncle Buck, which has never been released. Planes Trains and Automobiles has a cue or so that were not on the original soundtrack.

I haven't got around to it yet, but planning to order it at some point. I'm not a huge John Hughes connoisseur, but this seems like a prime opportunity to get Lindsay Buckingham's "Holiday Road" on CD.

Quite ridiculous that NO score material is included, like Keith Forsey's BREAKFAST CLUB for instance. Would also have loved some of Stephen Hagues cues from SOME KIND OF WONDERFUL and Thomas Newmans THE GREAT OUTDOORS.

One disc of score material had been nice.

A) Plenty of examples of his use of songs have become iconic, but the scores?
B) I have a sneaking suspicion that it's not aimed at score fans.

Not all of these 74 songs are "iconic".

I wholeheartedly agree!

Hopefully there would be an additional follow-up set with just the scores.

That said, I love that there is a set like this. Great tunes.

Who said "all"?

Even after all these years, I would really love complete song & score releases for "Sixteen Candles" and "Uncle Buck".
(I'm not complaining, mind you. I know the licensing would be a nightmare. Even this set must have been a huge challenge.)

Just to be helpful (and I can't help it, I'm an editor):

In the subject line, it should be Hughes' not Hughe's.

Will help search in future.

Let this set be another rather pointless song compilation and let a label like La La Land Records do the score releases. I'm not saying all John Hughes films' scores would sell just as well, but MV did say "Ferris Bueller's Day Off" was one of their best selling titles ever -- and only a little over half the CD was songs, so it had a large potion of score (and not all the songs because of licensing issues).

I didn't say they were.

The set was put together with input from Hughes' music supervisor and estate, so clearly these songs are what they feel to be the best tribute to him.

I feel like I'm the only one in the world who would scan the track list looking for the instrumental Rhythm of Life from Uncle Buck. But alas. Really cool set though and I'm also glad it exists.

You're not alone, Amigo.
I always really wanted that instrumental too.

Edsel doesn't really cater to that audience...
