Is anybody out there familiar with “The Genesis Suite”? It was conceived by Nathaniel Shilkret, composed one of the sections along with two composers (Igor Stravinsky and Arnold Schoenberg) and, in addition to himself, three who also scored feature films - Ernst Toch, Alexandre Tansman, and Darius Milhaud. After being rejected by every record company, Shilkret took a chance and formed his own company, Artist Records, and recorded it with Werner Janssen conducting his Janssen Symphony Orchestra Of Los Angeles with narration by actor Edward Arnold (which was added after). Sadly, sections of the score by Shilkret were destroyed in a house fire in the 60s, though a partial reconstruction of the suite with new orchestration by Patrick Russ was put in the late ‘90s. The original recording with the Janssen Symphony Orchestra was reissued on C.D. on Angel Records in 2001. Efforts to make a new recording with Simon Rattle never came to fruition.
