In 1943! So tell me, is this an accurate depiction of British culture in 1943 or are both the Brits and Yanks stereotyped?

You'll be shocked by the lead performer. The film takes a really awkward and sobering turn at the 26 minute mark and the cameo near the end is hilarious!

Yeah, I've seen that (maybe in a WW2 doc), I don't think there's going to be too many people old enough to answer your question: do we have any 90 year old members here?

One thing, apparently the UK soldiers were jealous of how much the G.I.s were paid (over-paid, over-sexed & over here), as they always seemed to have tons of money, but it seems that wasn't quite true. Come payday, as soon as they could, they'd go out & blow the lot & then stay in camp until the next payday, so every time you saw a US soldier they were waving wads of cash around.

Yep. Back then, it was beer and girls.

Today, it's movie soundtracks.

At least for us nerds.

Yes, he joined the military to serve his country. They decided to use him as an actor in military training films.

I love the comment how it was once okay for an adult man to give kids candy.

I like Burgess Meredith's over-the-top portrayal of Satan in The Sentinel.

Is that Burgess Meredith in his pre-Penguin days ?

I wonder if it was habitual for him to use a cigarette holder and he took it to his Penguin portrayal…

But what surprises me, Your Grace, is that they're quiet about it. I always wish I could do ASL with someone whenever I go into a bar here.

now that the video is blocked there's no point in my posting:

at 13:35, they talk about rationing butter, etc. It's stuck in my mind that the Brits are still having to do this.

When I went to London, I was tempted to give TG a pound of sugar and a pair of nylons! smile
