And don't forget to mark down 2053 - the centenary of Danny Elfman!
Seriously (sorry, these rash of too-early centenary celebration threads are starting to drive me bonko), a Delerue respective would be a great idea two years from now. Delerue, and the other composers coming up on 100 years, are receding in time and we need to keep their glorious compositions alive and vital. This board should have a few threads during the week of the relevant film music composer's centennial highlighting several of their best scores; not only to revisit their music, but to encourage younger film music fans to discover them.
Two concerts will take place April 11 & 12 2025 in Paris. The programs include French film scores only as well as two concert pieces (one is the mouvement concertant, one of Delerue's favorite). Sadly, no scores from his American movies.
Not too many months left before it's Georges Delerue's centenary. I hope that there will be something done for him in America too - not just in France.
Delerue totally rocks, he is easily one of my top 10 favorite film composers of all time. And his oeuvre is just enormous, Morricone-like.
I already knew the piece CÉRÉMONIAL from an Erato CD but wasn't familiar with the other pieces, MADRIGAL and the CONCERTINO FOR TRUMPET AND ORCHESTRA. Save for LE MÉPRIS which is played on solo piano, most tracks feature brass instruments prominently.
I've never really listened to Georges Delerue that much. Many years ago I bought the Varese Club, An Almost Perfect Affair, which is very nice. And then around seven years ago (on a whim) I bought the Music Box expended Chouans! & I love that, & then another period piece, La Révolution Française, the Music Box two-disc expanded release, again, fantastic. So it's about time I bought another.
