This is a solidly good score. Typical Jones main theme (enjoyably grand/elegant) which isn't repeated all the time on the album and always in the same form. But there just isn't one good/great theme, with the mystery/Loch Ness motif, and the gentle soaring love theme. The celtic cues are novel enough and add diversity to the orchestral score that Jones wrote. In some cues, there is a Goldsmith influence (ala Powder) but it is not really getting into a fuss over. Of the minimal action cues, the ones we do get are very good (before the Dark City action style). But, there are references from previous and to future Jones scores (Dark City main theme appears in fragments and The Dark Crystal's Jen Journey's theme is somewhat rewritten in a cue).

Sorely neglected this score over the years. Maybe only one listen.

Usually prefer Trevor Jones in action or heavy drama mode, but this is a wonderful change of pace.

Some reasonably priced copies on Amazon if one were interested.

I would love to see this one rereleased, even if as is. The CD (released by the kings of fucking things up, Perseverance) is marred by the fact it comes from a lossy source -- that is, they took Mp3s (or some other lossy format) and upsampled them to put it on CD.

Not that I expect it granted.

I've also been enjoying this one lately. It's a TAD bit on the long side at 60 minutes, given the nature of the music, but plenty of highlights throughout.

I love what Trevor Jones has composed over the years. Definitely my kind of music. Check out his score to THE MIGHTY if you are not familiar with it. It can be found at Youtube.com

Glad to see a Trevor Jones thread come up on the board, as I've been re-exploring his work these past few weeks. In fact, it's almost been entirely Trevor Jones 24/7. It's lamentable that he is still alive but barely active. His late 90s work was some of the best at the time, and the grandeur of his style is sorely missing in today's film music.

Well, from what I've heard, he's now teaching in South Africa and is content with that. But yes -- we all miss his voice!

One of my favorite efforts by the composer.

One of my favorite efforts by the composer.

That still needs a proper lossless release, as mentioned above...
