I used to have the GDM Music CD release from 2003, which also included "Toby Dammit." This release preceded the Verita Note and includes the same bonus tracks.

According to Soundtrack Collector, the bonus tracks aren't from the LP. The GDM was their first appearance.

I never picked up the Quartet, but if I had I would've scratched my head over the omission of the bonus tracks, since I recall them being (and sounding) very good, and they were presumably available.

As an aside: my copy is in storage, but I distinctly recall "Vitelloni's Bar" being a solid re-recording of the "I Vitelloni" theme (presumably recorded to be used as source music for "Roma," but I don't recall hearing it the last time I watched the movie).

Many thanks for your input. Unfortunately, this all makes no sense to me at all. The discogs listing about the GDM set says that there are NO master tapes for "Satyricon" and "Roma":

Where does all the music come from, then? The "Masters of Cinema" BD obviously has a MFX track:

Also, a new LP of "Roma" (including the tracks missing from the Quartet release) has been issued:

and a CD of "Satyricon" - now mastered from "master tapes":

I just wish there were ONE cover it-all release of these two or three titles. It's all just confusing.

There should be one CD (or a two disk set) covering all the "Roma" music (including the UA album master!) and another one for "Satyricon". This mix-up is frustrating.

The GDM of "Satyricon" was definitely an LP transfer, but "Toby Dammit" and "Roma" - from memory - sounded like they came from a tape source rather than an LP source.

Not having heard it, I assume the Quartet sounds better than the GDM, but not including the bonus tracks makes that release a curious missed opportunity.

The "bonus" tracks are ruther funny. "Vitelloni's Bar" includes the "Vitelloni" theme as you suggested. The "Aria di Roma" sounds a bit like Rozsa doing Roma wink Amazing stuff...

I downloaded the album from qobuz. It's mastered very differently in comparison to the Quartet release. Cuetools doesn't recognize it - so it is neither the GDM, nor the Verita Note disk. I just hope it is not a transcode.
