Who is the conductor of 2CD set Sony's HUR? Depends which one you mean. Sony released TWO 2CD sets from BH. In the 1990s there was one which presented the two albums (Savina and 'More Music') conducted by Savina and Rozsa himself under the pseudonym of Kloss, who was present. Recently, they re-issued the Rhino OST tracks. With the FSM you have all that and much more.

Messala: In the name of all the gods Judah, what does the cost of a cracked jewel case mean to you? Judah: If I cannot persuade them to use stronger materials, that does not mean I won't buy their products. Besides, and you must understand this Messala, I believe in the past of CD and in its future. Messala: Future? CD is a dead technology. Judah: You may conquer CD, you may gloat about broken cases, but that is not the end... CD will rise again! Messala: Ahh.. you live on dead dreams, the technology of the past! The glory of multi-disc boxes has gone. Kendall will not rise again to save them, nor Townson. Look for the best Judah... don't be a fool, look to iTunes! Judah: I would rather be a fool than a nerd or an Apple fan Boy. Messala: I am a savvy buyer. Judah: Yes, who is killing CD and slaughtering my hobby! But not forever! And I tell you the day mp3 falls there will be a shout of freedom that the soundtrack world has never heard before!

When I opened the front of my "Ben-Hur" case, the hinged tray was already loose. I had a momentary flash of the Wrath of Steve. After regaining composure and carefully snapping it back into place, though . . . . . . I just had to try removing Disc III from its spindle and WOW was that a job. It's true what they say about compact disc flexibility. In colder weather I'm sure it would have snapped in two. Instead of daring to put it back on the spindle, I'm storing it on the other side, where the booklet goes. When you put the booklet in on top of it and close the case, there's no movement, so I think it's a scuff-risk-free solution. My only other superficial dissatisfaction is that I ordered the "Ben-Hur" set, the Schifrin set, and the Rozsa box all at once and didn't get a single free magnet or composer card or anything. What's up with THAT?! Okay, now that I've vented everything on you all, I'm calm enough to enjoy the genius of Rozsa and Matessino. Do not disturb.

That is, if he can stop chuckling long enough.

Amen. A magnificent release. Just finished my first spin of the first two discs, which was an intense and quite moving experience. This kind of clarity is like experiencing the movie projected in 70mm on the most enormous screen, with the best seats in the house. The first downbeat literally made me shudder, it was so thunderous. Epic. Bravo, FSM. God, the front of my shirt's all damp from salivating--if only Intrada received stocks at the same time as SAE. Oh well, at least I got an email from them confirming my order. Unfortunately, on the question of when they'd have stock, they were disturbingly silent. And their site only says, "Coming in March", which could turn out to be a very long month for some of us.
