This has been available over a week and BSX haven't sold 100 signed copies yet? Where are the Tangerine Dream fans? Scratching my head over this one.
I was surprised to see that in the header of BSX's email, too. I'm glad I'm getting a signed copy, but seriously...I remember a time when this would have sold out within days.
Came to think of it, Paul was only 26 when he scored Miracle Mile.
If only Paul would do something as cool nowadays. But he's certainly making a living.
Yes, I admit that I no longer buy his scores, and haven't done so for 10 years. But I guess Halt And Catch Fire is worth getting, as it revisits his TD days.
Got back yesterday and ripped my discs last night. Will be listening all day today. Thanks Ford, Steve DJ, Paul and everyone. Bring on more TD Reissues.
I got the CD a few days ago. It's exactly the kind of presentation i love (i've had the original album since it first came out).
To hear the score as written for the movie (as well as the "fillers" to be used at will) and then directly compare it to the album TD made out of it is brilliant. The "raw" score vs. the "polished" and "repurposed" album. When i got the CD in '89 i had no clue about what the movie was about - and judging from the music, i would never have guessed. Since i saw the movie in the cinema during Avoriaz Festival 1990, i was blown away.
TD didn't do THAT many changes for the album versions (fleshing out tunes, adding instruments and sometimes melodic lines), but if you compare the two versions, it's two entirely different experiences. There's one track on the album that went unused in the film (plus "People In The News" being a sort of re-mix of "After The Call" - which itself is a re-mix of "Truck Scene" in the score) and some drones/mood pieces of the score that didn't make it to the album mix. Otherwise all of the material is there in both versions and yet it sounds so completely different.
I know we luckily get a lot of score/album combos in the past years (we lucky bastards!), but this one was quite an eye-opener.
Again, thanks a lot for this - hoping that more TD stuff will follow of course...
