Danbeck, is the Jaws 2 album in film order? I recall you posting film orders in the past for Jaws 3 and 4 but not 2.

Yavar, it is not in film order and the liner notes of the Varese edition indicates a more or less "chronological" order. But, in reality, the only way to put it in film order is to edit some of the tracks, as there are a lot of tracks that merge music from different portions of the film, here's the correct order

1 (MAIN TITLE), 6 (0:00 to 0:51 THE CATAMARAN RACE), 4 (0:00 to 1:43 THE WATER KITE SEQUENCE), 12 (0:00 to 1:28 ATTACK ON THE WATER SKIER), 10 (0:42 to 1:18 FIRE ABOARD), 7 (1:27 to End TOWARDS CABLE JUNCTION "Hendricks Finds a Power Cable"), 2 (THE MENU), 5 (BRODY MISUNDERSTOOD), 6 (0:52 to end THE CATAMARAN RACE "The Sailing Begins"), 3 (BALLET FOR DIVERS), 10 (0:00 to 0:41 FIRE ABOARD "Boats on the Menu"), 10 (1:19 to end "Eddie's Death"), 9 (THE OPEN SEA), 12 (1:29 to end ATTACK ON THE WATER SKIER "Attack on the Boats"), 4 (1:44 to end THE WATER KITE SEQUENCE "Mike's Rescue"), 8 (ATTACK ON THE HELICOPTER), 11 (SEAN'S RESCUE), 7 (0:00 to 1:26 TOWARD CABLE JUNCTION), 13 (THE BIG JOLT!), 14 (END TITLE, END CREDITS).

I've found a short interview with D. Fake posted recently at jaws-3d.com - unfortunately he denies having current plans to release JAWS THE REVENGE.

4) Have you released the [Jaws 3-d] ost to fulfill a commercial need, by contractual obligation, or just because you wanted to?
We always release CDs because we want to and hope they fill some commercial needs.

5) Does the music that we hear in the film (different than in the album) still exist? Is there any chance for Intrada to release it?
The only music we had rights to was what was on the original LP.

6) The music from Jaws The Revenge is one of the only likeable things in the movie. are you planning on releasing it?
We have no plans currently to release the soundtrack for JAWS THE REVENGE.

Personally, I have more than enough JAWS music. I have both the original and expanded version of the first (the latter of which I'm trying to get rid of), the sequel album, the recently released JAWS 3D and the JAWS 4 promo. To be honest, I really only play the first (original) and the sequel album and only have the remaining albums to "have it all". Kinda ridiculous, now that I think of it, but there you go.

While we're discussing film version vs. album version, isn't the ending of the "Catamaran Race" different in the film? I remember a comedic style ending to the water balloon being thrown on the teenager reading the paperback.

"The Catamaran Race" are two cues joined together on the album. In the movie, the aforementioned brief comedic cue is heard in-between the racing scenes. For me, this is one of those instances where an album edit works much better than the complete version as heard in the film since the musical flow gets interrupted. Same goes with "Journey to Fort Sedgwick" from DANCES WITH WOLVES. I much prefer the original album cut over the expanded edition, however nice the additional music is.

Anyone know what music is used for the Jaws 3 dvd menu?

My Jaws enthusiasm extended no further than #2. I obtained Jaws 2 in LP format and found it to be competent and very much in the shade of it's big brother. When the 25th anniversary 'definitive' version of Jaws came out I very gladly handed over my cash, only to discover that volume settings on playback machinery had to be that much higher to hear anything at all. But will I part company with more cash for the 'complete' version?

Am I the only one who has noticed that the climatic shark fight in Jaws 3D is a direct rip-off of Igor Stravinsky's The Rite of Spring?

Whoa, you're right! How did I not notice this before? Let me blow the dust of this Rite Of Spring disc. And it's right before the Star Wars section!

Thought I'd add this here since I mentioned it in the Non-Film Score section too. Universal is releasing Jaws on Blu-ray in August, one of thirteen titles they're restoring as part of their centennial celebration this year. The others are:

All Quiet on the Western Front
The Birds
Abbott and Costello's Buck Privates
Dracula (1931), both English and Spanish versions
Frankenstein
Schindler's List
Out of Africa
Pillow Talk
Bride of Frankenstein
The Sting
To Kill a Mockingbird

"The restorations, which will be released throughout the studio's yearlong centennial celebration, took three to six months each and cost $250,000 to $600,000 per title, Universal senior vp technical operations Michael Daruty told The Hollywood Reporter and others at a sneak preview of the extraordinarily impressive results on the studio lot on Dec. 1. 'This restoration effort was not about marketability and whether we're gonna sell enough DVDs,' said Daruty. 'That is what we do on a daily basis, but this was a commitment by the company to say, "We're gonna devote funding and most probably continue that effort year over year to try to preserve and restore the legacy of the company. We're here to spend the money on these 13 titles and some others, whether we're gonna get our money back in that first year or not." It's really refreshing.'"

Here's hoping they also decide to celebrate, as well as help preserve and restore their legacy, by licensing Jaws to LLL or Intrada!

It looks like review copies of the new Blu-ray are starting to go out, making me wish a 100th Anniversary CD set from Intrada was arriving too...

Since Intrada's releasing albums in celebration of Universal's 100th, I'm really wondering now if JAWS will actually get a new release. After all, it has to be one of Universal's most successful and beloved films, and the soundtrack is recognized by any movie lover. I'd gladly purchase a copy.

I'll keep buying JAWS as many times as it is released. Give me more JAWS.

In a recent interview Roger Feigelson said that Intrada isn't working on any John Williams title. So, I don't think a new release is coming.

Ah, I guess that answers the question then. Thanks!
