Union, NJ had the Varese display. The town is 2 away from my office, so I popped in on lunch.

I bought:
Kloser Alien vs. Predator
Waxman / McNeely Sunset Blvd
Revell The Fog
John Williams The Missouri Breaks
Doyle Sleuth
Desplat Firewall

Having never been in a store like that, might I add that the retailer's clientele represents some of God's more interesting creatures.

No luck at the two I checked in South Florida:

Sandalfoot Plaza in West Boca Raton
South Federal Hwy in Deerfield Beach

Nothing in my Family Dollar store. (West Central Florida)
But I did pick up a tube of toothpaste for a dollar.

Went to the one in (close to) North Las Vegas and there's a nice selection of stuff I already had (Loony Tunes, X-Men 3, MI:3, Night at the Museum 2, and a couple others....)

Nothing I was interested in buying though.

Hit 3 other stores in my area, zilch. So only 1 nearby had some titles. But 2 of the stores were stocking shelves, lots of boxes unopened.

Just checked my Family Dollar. While they had a couple of CDs I didn't expect to see (Dreamboat Annie - Heart, No Rest for the Wicked - Ozzy Osbourne), I saw no Varese discs. Thanks for nothing!

Dammit. The closest Family Dollar to me is 66 miles away in Rancho Cucamonga, CA.

BTW... has anyone wondered if Varese is unloading all these CDs to finance this "whopper" that's coming on the 5th? That's the first thing that popped in my mind when I saw this thread!

1 of 2 stores in NC had the big display, I grabbed a few:

I Know Who Killed Me - McNeely
Get Smart - Rabin
The Kingdom - Elfman
Night At The Museum 2 - Silvestri
Horton Hears A Who - Powell
Land Of The Lost - Giacchino
Monster House - Pipes

Not bad, of course the cashier thought these were movies.... sigh... roll eyes

Also saw copies of Looney Tunes Back In Action, Aeon Flux, Bury My Heart At Wounded Knee, among the others mentioned above. So, they ARE out there... just hit a few stores. Not likely I'll buy any more today but, will check 2 more area stores this afternoon to see if they have them

Where in NC? There are four near me (In Winston-Salem) and I might make the trip to check them out...

So far the store in Spencer has them. That's about 25 minutes from Winston if you take the 52 bypass south. Salisbury didn't have any, I'm checking China Grove and Kannapolis later.

You're in Winston, neat. Let me know if you can't find any and I can pick some up for you

Mike - I tried all the Family Dollar stores near me and nothing - they kept trying to sell me blank CDs or DVDs!

If you are still up for it, I'd love to have you pick some up for me? Here is my email address:

Well... wow. Man, I really need to check my local FDs more often. embarrassment It's a little disheartening to read of all these Florida locations not having the discs, though, but my part of Florida is pretty well removed from Miami and Wellington and all that.

BTW... has anyone wondered if Varese is unloading all these CDs to finance this "whopper" that's coming on the 5th? That's the first thing that popped in my mind when I saw this thread!

I'm sure it has nothing to do with it. I don't think the labels work like that, and dumping this many titles at these prices surely couldn't be justified by the need to raise capital for any single project unless the dumpees weren't moving anyway, in which case they'd be candidates for dumping anyway.

Right. THey are basically moving stuff around on the balance sheet. Relieve inventory, write-down loss, ...

The small fraction of a dollar they would have gotten for these titles wouldn't fund a new pair of sneakers.

Email sent. I'll be glad to pick up what I can.

Hey this Get Smart by Rabin is a fun little score...some nice takes on the classic theme and some nice fun action stuff. A nice bargain.

Went to 5 of the Family Dollar stores, here in Lakeland, Florida. NO LUCK! Just the usual Motown cutouts @ $6 each.

As someone else suggested, they are almost surely leftover stock from stores that closed.

FWIW, I visited another FD this evening in NJ and it also had the Varese selections. There were duplicates of those seen in my original post as well as different titles. It's this store location:

6 State Route 36 E
Middletown, NJ

TO ZOOBA-i checked my doller tree store in town, no sight of any cd's of that nature, this thing, if you narrow it down seems to be a New Jersey down the south seashore east coast thing, but not reaching the deep south. You know like one of those big monster movies.

Tried two of them today.

The one next to where I work: Nada.

The one near my house: Oh. Em. Gee. I picked up "Dragonball: Evolution" and "The Good German".

This is quite an event, as (for a number of reasons) I don't much care for Family Dollar.
