I got my Deluxe Edition of this in the mail today from Amazon...and holy crap...this thing is big. The unique packaging for this Deluxe Edition CD is going to cause all kinds of moaning and groaning around here just like the Star Trek Deluxe Edition one did...cause it is not going to fit on the shelf with the rest of our collections. Giving it my first listen to right now, but I am at work and can't really give it my full attention.

Having heard the cd I really don't think the album does it justice.

Having seen the movie yesterday I concur. I didn't like the movie as much as you did, though I did have a fun time. I saw the 2D version and don't feel I missed out on much 3D-wise.

I think you did! The 3D depth and the action setpieces (with excellent use of bullet time) was one of the best things about the film, which was VERY variable in quality otherwise. I agree with most of your comments.

Ugh. What ugly package. Why do all of these new 2-disc albums by Zimmer have to be some strange format? I really want them to fit on my shelf! I know, first world problems, but seriously. I think this kind of packaging is crappy and if anything, should be better quality on the Deluxe Edition.

That said, I'm 4 tracks in. I quite dislike "I'm Electro", but really enjoy Spidey's fanfare in "I'm Spider-Man". Not really liking Electro's whispering, but I am not hating it either.. we'll see if my decision swings one way or the other.

Not crazy for the packaging either, but so far I'm getting into the music. Was kinda wary of the voices thing, but have to admit, the "My Enemy" track is pretty damn good after 2 listens razz Almost done with the first CD and am really enjoying what Zimmer has done here.

Let me update myself... HATE the packaging big grin. A huge oversized digi-pack, the track titles are only on a backing slip which falls off the digi-pack, the cardboard sleeves make it hard to remove the discs... yikes this thing is a chore razz

I'm being pulled in two opposite directions here.

On one hand, I dig the idea of making Spidey's music more "youthful" and more ambient rock with that trumpet solo. I'm not sure if it gets where it needs to go in fulfilling that idea, but it's at least *something* (which is more than one can say about Man Of Steel).

On the other hand, the trumpet solo is definitely Zimmer's biggest musical swipe since ripping off Carl Orff for True Romance. And that bugs me, especially because the trumpet herald is basically one of the most famous pieces of American music in the last one hundred years. It's not even like you can say its *sort of* like Copland, because it IS Copland. But for what it is, is a good little theme for the hero, so at the very least, I can appreciate it for "surface value"

That said, there is a couple of pretty good cuts on here where it's obviously Zimmer doing a Tangerine Dream thing and it sounds a lot different and more melodic than some of the other "music" on here.

And on that note: as someone who spent a good number of years in the 90s listening to nothing but electronica by the likes of Paul Van Dyk and 3 Steps Ahead - I hate dubstep intensely. It's the electronic answer for the noise war we've been subjected to in album mastering: it's all effect with absolutely no concept of design or melody. I'm at a loss to think of someone who actively likes the genre who is over the age of 22 or has any taste in the first place. No offense intended, but to me it's the biggest film music mistake since the score to The Princess Bride. Ugh.

And the voices. I know I'm tempting fate when I say this, but that whole whisper-rap schtick is going to be the next "wailing women" trend and we're all gonna reap some shit-ass music design because of it.

I'm not saying this score is bad but it sure has be rethinking if I want to buy any new film score albums not made by John Williams. I'm happy other people like it but think this is the stop where I get off the fucking bus.

Considering that actually all last John Williams scores are incredibly boring (War Horse, Lincoln, Book thief are terrible) you are not so convincing.

Stop instigating, weirdo.

Then perhaps you should do the same by not lacing your posts with expletives, and not acting needlessly hostile towards other posters, as you have done here and in this thread:

"Profile (Ray Okamoto) deleted because this user is no longer active."

Speaks volumes.

On topic, the whisper-rap stuff sounds pretty corny to me, but I'll probably pick up the regular edition on CD and give it a chance. Haven't seen the movie yet. I'll probably wait for it to come out on Blu and check it out from the library.

Like I said, this type of thing sounds like something I'd hate, and yet there is something so intriguing about the track "My Enemy". The unsettling whispers, the power that builds up, it is at the least pretty interesting.

Agreed. I don't much like the score as a whole (yet), but "My Enemy" is surprisingly effective, angry and unnerving and powerful, especially so given that if anyone described it to me I'd not be terribly interested in hearing how it sounded.

Yeah, now. Hindsight is easy.
But when a new member posts, it doesn't cost a damn thing to give them the benefit of the doubt. And it doesn't justify the "gauntlet" that other members feel they have to construct. YouTube already exists for that.

Anyhoo, back to Spidey...

Oh Loren really,

War Horse is a sumptuous film and score by a master artist of music. There are a tiny handful of composers on this earth that can approach anything like the craftsmanship of Warhorse, and none of those people have a Z in their name.

I've seen the film 3 times and loved it. To me the Amazing Spidey reboot is way ahead of the Sam Raimi trilogy. That's just a personal thing.

I was disappointed to see that James Horner was not attached to this movie - always disappointed when the opportunity to expand a developed theme is thrown away - but I thought the Zimmer score worked well in the film.

Listening to the soundtrack is a little harder....but as others have mentioned - the "My Enemy" track is a little hypnotic. I find myself listening to that over and over.

The actual Spiderman theme - I can't get that out of my head. It's a little infectious. As much as I loved the Horner take on Spiderman, the Zimmer theme seems just as.....hummable - and appropriate for this movie.

Just my 2 cents worth....
