Beethoven: Piano Concerto No.5
by Claudio Arrau, Staatskapelle Dresden, Sir Colin Davis

I'm not overly mad about this piece but it is a fine recording.

By any chance, is that album tied-in with National Geographic somehow? Looks almost just like their covers. Same font and everything. smile

Not that I know of. All compositions by McCoy Tyner: a pianist and composer.

One of the most beloved quotes by Tyner: "I am the music I play; in trying to explain the direction of music, I can only base it on the direction that I (McCoy Tyner) pursue in life."

John Coltrane's wife, Alice, also plays the Harp. Wayne Shorter, tenor and soprano sax; Gary Bartz, alto sax; Ron Carter, acoustic bass; and Elvin Jones (master percussionist) on drums.

I'm currently listening to (a lot!) the new album from WILL MARTIN.
He's a young guy from New Zealand, and he has the most amazing voice.
This is his first album, which was relased in the UK on Monday (22nd). It's already gone platinum in Australia and New Zealand.

I'm sure it won't be long before it does the same here.

Highly recommended...take a look at his website and see : http://www.willmartin.net/

Too bad they split after just two albums. Great tunes.

I was able to attend a McCoy Tyner performance in 2004 (with Stanley Clarke on acoustic bass!) and I was taken with Tyner's gravelly voice, which I thought only trumpet players could get, but it would seem that all cool Jazz players attain it...that voice, that is.

My favorite Jazz album of all time! (Okay, top five...)

Zelig, you are so lucky. Luv Stanley Clarke as well. Last concert we went to was a Miles Davis tribute concert. I was thrilled to see one of my favourites, Gary Bartz, playing sax, and Lenny White on drums. Many of my favourite Jazz musicians have passed so I am grateful for the ones who are still with us...
