To call this man a reverse-racist and a bigot to me sounds rather harsh. And Bill Shatner was an A-grade ***hole to most people he's worked with early in his career, that's well documented. I don't see why Takei shouldn't be allowed to talk about that as it's widely documented and Bill tormented these guys lol. He brought that on himself.
It's also well-documented that Shatner has bent over backwards to make peace with people he's offended throughout his career. If those people can't move past it, they are the continuing problem--not Shatner. Takei embarrasses only himself.
Against the only African-American member of the US Supreme Court where he made remarks that had they been made about the first African-American President of the United States would have made him a permanent pariah.
People can be critical of other peoples political positions and legal philosophies all they like, but when there is an expectation that a person's skin color or ethnicity should somehow dictate what their political position or legal philosophy is supposed to be according to a manufactured standard invented by a self-righteous elite, that is bigotry and racism no matter how else you try to spin it.
And ironically he wouldn't have ever become a Supreme Court Justice if it wasn't for the civil rights movement or hell the North winning the Civil War. He took advantage of all that fought for his rights , now he fights to take them away from others. He's a disgrace.
Yeah, it has nothing to do with him happening to be black -- it's about someone being a bonehead, and there are currently several boneheads on the SCOTUS. And, yeah, I'm liberal.... so what?

Yeah, but Shat will always be Shat -- he's been too old to change for decades now. I actually think he's funny and like him anyway, which is why I'm now going to make this joke.... Maybe he just hasn't bent over enough for Takei!

If it has nothing to do with him being black, then you can acknowledge that Takei's remark was racist and bigoted and worthy of as much if not more condemnation than Mel Gibson's remarks which inspired an endless thread on this board.
I happen to think there are five boneheads on the Supreme Court, but their ethnicity and gender has nothing to do with it and never will. That's rooted in subjects we're not supposed to discuss.
He called Justice Thomas "a clown in blackface." That was not an assault on his opinions, or his legal reasonings in the case in question that we won't talk about, that was a personal assault questioning whether he was a real African-American or not simply because of his political/legal philosophy.
And there's another example of Takei-style racism in action which demands that all African-Americans think one way only on politics and legal philosophy "OR ELSE!"
I was pointing out the irony. Has nothing to do with racism. I don't judge him on his race, but on his ideology.

Yeah, not a good idea to use the term "blackface." Too loaded these days. Seems like Takei let his passions get the best of his tongue, but I do agree with him that Thomas isn't that great a Justice. A clown even? I don't find anything funny about him.

When I first saw this post I thought the same thing as Adam B (who was condemned for his prescience): "This will turn political", I thought and what a shock....it did.

As the OP, I will reiterate that I did not think that putting people in internment camps was a hot political topic in 2015.
I thought that on a Star Trek-obsessed message board, some members might want to know that Takei had a Broadway show based on his internment camp experience, and that Takei was using his show to respond to a crackpot remark about the efficacy of reinstating internment camps in 2015.
