A great moody scene that remind me of a bit of Universal, 30's horror films was when mama Gorgo rises out of the sea for the first time and it is so sad and pathetic to see the head businessman on nova island, while at night looking with a magnifying glass at something, suddenly see the creature and gets crush to death in seconds, going down with his whole island. The incredible striking music, the editing, WHAMMO. The mood, the feel of disaster, one of a kind.

JOHN MCMASTERS:

I saw GORGO when it first released in the theater, so I'm glad the Blu-ray GORGO video is pretty good. I'm waiting for the price to drop before I get mine----which isn't a big deal because I've been waiting for a Blu-ray GORGO for about two years.

Dragon: Don't set too high a bar on expectations for the bluray -- it is a disappointment if you expect anything like a pristine image -- it's a really mixed bag.

JOHN McMASTERS:

I've read the reviews here and have heard that the video on Blu-ray GORGO is ok, but not the very best, so I'll be happy if it's an improvement over the video quality of dvd which I've heard is mediocre at best.
I'll be happier when one of the Japanese toy companies release a Gorgo replica.

Now that GORGO is on Blu-ray, I'm hoping the US will finally get Blu-ray versions of these 1960s monster movies RODAN and THE MYSTERIANS that were released in Japan some time ago.

I'd go for KING KONG VS. GODZILLIA and GODZILLA VS. THE THING, but that's about it for me. By the way, GORGO is better than Twilight Time's THE FURY, which is horrible, imo.

I would love to see BEAST FROM 20,000 FATHOMS AND THE GIANT BEHEMOTH colorized .

DAN THE MAN:

I wonder how well the other colorized Harryhausen movies sold (I have the set that has 20 MILLION MILES TO EARTH, EARTH VS THE FLYING SAUCERS, IT CAME FROM BENEATH THE SEA).

Also, I'd like to see a colorized version of the original THE THING starring Kenneth Tobey. I watch it every Halloween......one of the few sci fi monster movies that isn't ruined by gory disembowelments and creatures bursting out of chests.

DAN THE MAN:

I don't know about Ted Tuner, but the dvd version is only in black & white.

I got the Blu-ray version of AIRPLANE! yesterday and watched it last night---I was glad to see Kenneth Tobey was in that, too. The Blu-ray video is a lot better than the dvd, so it was worth the price. I hope they release the rest of the Naked Gun series in Blu-ray.

TO DRAGON 53- Back in the late 80's early 90's when the craze for colorization was on , they colorized a bunch of the old classics and showed then on TV, KING KONG, SON OF KONG, MIGHTY JOE YOUNG, IT'S A WONDERFUL LIFE, THE MALTESE FALCON, NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD-68 ETC ETC, I am pretty sure THE THING was one of them. some look better then others, I personally didn't hold to the extreme dislike of the idea like some film fans do. If you want to watch it in b/w then watch it in b/w, if you want to watch it in color then watch it in color. What was funny with some viewers who have not watch the films in a long time, they would say when you told them they colorized the film, I always thought it was in color. Now that says something doesn't it.

DAN THE MAN:

If a colorized version of the original THE THING was released, I'd get it.....but I doubt it's on the horizon because most people seem to prefer John Carpenter's version.

It's available on DVD in a dual b & w/colour version in the UK.

CLARK WAYNE:

Thanks, but unfortunately, it's a Region 2 dvd. Hopefully it will be released in the US----I think the John Carpenter commentary would be very interesting.

Here's a review.

Haven't ordered the BluRay yet, but I borrowed the DVD version. I had no idea Gorgo was actually Irish! The Irish government even said they wanted their monster back. Ha,ha!

I was also pleasantly surprised how beautiful the music was. A nice diversion from the typical "dark and brooding" monster score. To my delight I found a suite available on "More Monstrous Movie Music".

to SOLIUM - A beautiful sweet lullaby I have been humming since I first heard it as a kid and then to the other extreme, great exciting mood pieces during the destruction of London. Great score.
