My copy of "The FBI-Season 1 Volume 1" arrived today and to see the *best* episodes from the series available on DVD now makes me feel like the biggest void in my TV on DVD collection has been filled.[/endquote

Now that's what I call fast! I preordered "The F.B.I Season 1 Vol. 1" from Warner's website
and haven't received it yet.

I spent the extra $10 for faster shipping. That's how anxious I was to finally have this!

Looks like "Kojak" finally returns from one-and-done purgatory in R1 at last!

http://www.tvshowsondvd.com/news/Kojak-season-2-coming/15435

I wonder if that will be a general release or a website only release?

I would think initially they'd try general release because I'm not aware of them having done the first release of a 'pickup' title via "Shout Select". They generally go that route after one season hasn't done as well but they're willing to continue.

Three Fox titles that Shout picked up are now definitely dead and kaputt as far as they're concerned. "Paper Chase", "Room 222" and "Peyton Place".

Well, I finally received the set, and the picture on all the episodes looks GREAT!

Now, will C.B.S./Paramount get hopping and put "The Untouchables: Season 4 Vol. 1" out?

I thought only the first two episodes looked just a little rougher compared to the rest but overall it was a great set. I'm looking foward to Volume 2!

I'm amused though how for nine years they kept misspelling Bronislau Kaper as "Bronislaw Kaper".

http://www.tvshowsondvd.com/news/Ironside-Season-5/15447

Hopefully we're not too much longer from hearing news on the next releases of "Ironside". S5 is important for (1) the pilot movie for the short-lived series "Sarge" with George Kennedy which spun off from the "Ironside" season opener (2) Elizabeth Baur's debut as Fran Belding and (3) Barbara Hale reuniting with Raymond Burr for the only time in the show's eight year run.

The one Shout! title that's leaving me perplexed in terms of a long wait now is "Adam-12." The remander of "Dragnet" was fast-tracked out in short order but we're coming close to a year now with no release of S6 of "Adam-12", and since the title has been made available retail all through S5 it's puzzling nothing's happened since one season's bad sale at least usually means another chance in the "Select" program.

Well, it is now official. "Kojak" S2 coming September 27! I'm sure glad I resisted the R2 urge. With this release, "McCloud" is now the last of the Universal "one and done" titles from 2005 (which once numbered as high as 11) to still not have a second R1 release.

And in the surprise category of a show I never expected to see come to DVD, we have S1 of "Police Story" coming September 6. This season includes the pilot episode for "Police Woman" which was previously released in the S1 release of "Police Woman" (which has been stalled out since then, almost five years ago).

This is very exciting news, though I hope they don't tease us by giving us just one season...

Hopefully it will sell well enough to prompt Shout to keep the dvd releases coming.

I have never known Shout! to abandon a title completely after just one release (though "Bill Cosby Show" was delayed more four years before it's second and final season was released). They do however have their share of "two and through" titles ("Room 222", "Peyton Place", "The Paper Chase" and at the moment "Marcus Welby M.D." is coming close to earning that status).

That seems to be the same problem that CBS/PARAMOUNT creates.
I'm still wondering if they'll finish VEGA$. There's only one season
left to release, but something tells me it's not going to happen.
The same goes for any hope of seeing more seasons of CANNON,
THE MOD SQUAD and STREETS OF SAN FRANCISCO. This is why
all the studios and dvd companies should have released complete series
sets when they started to put this stuff out on dvd.

To date, the two series that got "one and done" treatment from CBS/Paramount were "One Step Beyond" and "Love American Style" (two split season releases in the case of the latter). "Barnaby Jones" is also alas likely in that category now and that would give it the dubious distinction of lowest percentage of a show released on DVD (half a season since it was a mid-season replacement, of seven and a half seasons total).

Also, the new release of "Rawhide" S4 which had been stalled for several years reveals that for some of these titles that may get restarted after awhile, no remastering work will be done. "Rawhide" had S2 and S3 remastered, but S4 is from older transfers.

Yes and no. I think you imply "The Six Mill" box set as a reference.
A series as "Gunsmoke" lasts 20 seasons so it's rather costly.
Anyway, it's a good solution for series with 1 to 5 years as "The Streets of SF" or "The Untouchables".

Unfortunately, I don't think going complete route for all titles was ever practical. The average consumer is for the most part, more discriminating and not as committed to buying every year of a title for whatever reason unlike those of us who are classic TV buffs. And it simply would have been too costly an option.

For the most part, while the incompleteness of some titles (in particular "Burke's Law" and "The Big Valley" with "Bob Newhart Show" and "Barney Miller" for sitcoms) remains maddening, I have increasingly become a more glass half-full person in terms of what's actually available on DVD. THe average vintage TV fan I think can more than easily program a good schedule based on what's out there and never have to bother with over the air repeats again.

I had hoped that the recent release of the final 3 MTM seasons would have prompted release of the final 2 Bob Newhart seasons, but nooooooooooooooooooo. frown

Yeah...I guess you guys are right about the studios not releasing complete series
sets. Life is way too short anyway to watch all this stuff to begin with, and
considering how much each seasonal dvd set costs on the average, one
must ask themselves how many times they'll actually watch them.
I already scratched a bunch of tv titles off my wish list because I know
I'll never get around to watching them more than once or twice.
If CBS PARAMOUNT or WB was to actually release HAWAIIAN EYE or
77 SUNSET STRIP would I buy them? I know I wouldn't purchase EVERY season.
It's a problem I don't have to bother with since they probably wouldn't
release every season anyway.

Collecting these things can often be more about the thrill of mere ownership than the fact that we're going to spend all this time watching/listening (and this applies to the movies and CDs we buy too). We *like* to know it's there for whenever the mood might hit us and that fact of itself can often provide us with some sense of security.
