When the folks at the studio were putting together the package art for the final season of Hawaii Five-O (the classic original TV show), it must have seemed like a good idea at the time to include inserted pictures of actors Danny Kamekona (who guested in episodes over 30 times, in a variety of different roles) and Richard Denning (who played the Governor for most of the show's run). However, once we posted that box art last week, many fans wrote in to us about it, pointing out that cast members unique to the final year of the program were being overlooked. James MacArthur ("Dan 'Danno' Williams", whose sadly passed away a year ago last Friday) had departed the cast for that last season, but the series added in William Smith ("Det. James 'Kimo' Carew"), Moe Keale ("Det. Truck Kealoha") and Sharon Ferrell ("Det. Lori Wilson"). We passed that fan feedback along to CBS DVD Home Entertainment, and within a day the studio had pulled the original box art from circulation. Today they've begun distributing new, updated packaging image which replaces Kamekona and Denning with two of the three unique-to-Season 12 characters. It seems CBS has elected to go with William Smith (recognizable for his other roles in film and TV such as Red Dawn, Conan the Barbarian, Any Which Way You Can, Rich Man Poor Man, Laredo, etc.) and Sharon Ferrell (the first female detective on the squad of the original series, and whose character has a namesake on the new version of the show). They also changed the title on box to make the official on-package name of the DVD set, "Hawaii Five-O - The 12th and Final Season" (the previous version of the cover and spine had only said "The Final Season"). Our thanks to various readers, like Jeff Herman, for taking the time to e-mail us so we could pass along the fans' concerns to the studio. Fans have been wondering what sort of bonus material is being planned for this release. We don't have complete details yet, but CBS/Paramount's info to retailer mention "Series Promo" videos and something else (possibly a featurette?) which they refer to as "Crime Wave"; hopefully more details will follow soon. Here's a look at the revamped packaging for this item, which streets on January 10th: UPDATE: CBS DVD has kindly e-mailed us the rear package art for this title as well, as a "thank you" to our readers for their feedback which resulted in the box art change. In it we see that the "Crime Wave" special feature is described as a "music video tribute" to the show. You can see that image added to the bottom. Also, a couple of people have pointed out that I overlooked mentioning that the main image, that of Jack Lord of McGarrett, had been changed for the revised box art, too. Apologies for neglecting to point that out! http://tvshowsondvd.com/news/Hawaii-Five-O-Season-12/16156

Trust me, Saint, "Bored" is not worth losing sleep over. You can find it on You Tube and I still maintain it's the worst episode of the first 11 years I've seen with the possible exception of S10's "When Does A War End?" Hey, good to see you hear again, it's been a while! I'm a completist so, not having "Bored", even if it's the worst 5-O ep ever, will still naw at me. The '96 pilot would've been a cool bonus, a "what might have been" had it been picked up. Seeing Tricia O'Neil, who I love, in that S11 ep made me seek out your "Yum!" thread, Eric, to see if she got the treatment.

Glad I could oblige! She certainly stood out there in that episode which was more purposefully played for laughs than any other episode I can remember of the show (right down to it's "Book me Danno!" tag)

I was really hoping that the Season 12 release of Five-O would include the "lost" episode "Bored, She Hung Herself" and the 1996 pilot. Alas, it is not to be so. The lost episode will remain lost. And bootlegged for eternity.

Before she was Catwoman, Julie Newmar achieved some fame on TV as the star of the 1963-64 CBS sitcom "My Living Doll" as a beautiful female robot come to life. For years, there's been an intense effort to find the episodes for a DVD release but only now is that paying off with the release of 11 of 26 episodes on DVD this February. http://www.tvshowsondvd.com/news/Living-Doll-Volume-1/16205 Bonus content is also listed including the original soundtrack for the show. Good news!

Peter Graves reprises his role as Jim Phelps, the brilliant and charismatic leader of the Impossible Missions Force. Summoned out of retirement, Phelps leads a new team of I.M.F. agents in order to carry out dangerous and complex assignments. This revival of the classic, award-winning spy show that launched the blockbuster film franchise returns to DVD with its second and final explosive season, perfectly timed in advance of the release of MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE GHOST PROTOCOL! A 4 disc set includes all 16 second season episodes, featuring episodic promos on select episodes, plus a special holiday greeting from the cast. Also stars: Thaao Penghlis, Phil Morris, Tony Hamilton, Jane Badler. Notable guest star: Greg Morris reprising his role as Barney Collier That studio description quoted in italics above doesn't leave us very much more to say, expect that Mission: Impossible - Season 2: The '89 Season is coming to DVD on February 28th. This 4-disc set running 772 minutes hasn't had a cost revealed yet, but the pricing of the first season was $38.99 SRP for five discs, so we can probably take a cue from that. Here's a picture of the packaging: http://www.tvshowsondvd.com/news/Mission-Impossible-Season-2/16275

It'll be coming fast and furious for Kojak fans the first quarter of 2012. The post-series movies (and the original pilot film) come in January and now comes word we'll have Season 3 on March 20. http://www.tvshowsondvd.com/news/Kojak-Season-3/16292 This is the season I believe that has the guest appearance of Sylvester Stallone as an ultimately crooked cop just before he made "Rocky".

Regarding the last 2 seasons of The Bob Newhart Show, I saw these comments from a user at Amazon.com. Gives me a little hope that at least Fox is working on it, but how annoying that the delay is due to the usual reasons... From Amazon: "I just got some bad news on the release of Seasons 5 and 6 of The Bob Newhart Show, folks. I checked in with the 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment exec who's been the point person on this, and I was told that the releases are on hold because of the dreaded musical clearance issues, and that a holiday rollout won't happen. The shred of good news is that I asked point-blank if that meant the releases were off, and the exec said right now it's a "delay" and that they are "working on other solutions." I said I'd check back in a few months, but that I knew a lot of people were not going to be pleased, and that if we don't end up getting the final two seasons after strong indications that we would, people would be even more unhappy. So I guess we just have to wait and see, hoping for the best, and if the process does come to a halt decide what we want to do then. I hope some of you will be with me if we eventually need to mobilize."
