Finally, after eight years, Hardy Boys is complete on DVD!

My prurient reason for wanting it was to see Anne Lockhart of Battlestar Galactica in full bikini splendor. big grin

Anne Lockhart, really? I mean she's not bad, but when you have all of media to choose from.... Maybe I just have a grudge against her from the Battlestar Galactica days as the token female fighter pilot on the show.

No word on "Search" on DVD? Now that would be some news.

Anne's Sheba was not "token", she was in fact groundbreaking in being the first character of that kind ever on a sci-fi series. I have always enjoyed her basic allure and appeal, and this Hardy Boys episode along with her B.J. And The Bear episodes have been my Grail items regarding her non-Galactica appearances.

I always thought Anne was cute. You can definitely tell that she
got her looks from her mom. As for watching "sci-fi babes",
I go for the three purple-haired hotties on
Gerry Anderson's UFO, particularly Gabriella Drake. smile

I believe Gabrielle Drake originally auditioned for the part of Jo Grant.

As long as she didn't audition for the part of LOU GRANT, then we're fine. smile

A decade ago, Image Entertainment collectively released a total of 60 episodes from the early 60s series "Naked City" starring Paul Burke and which was filmed on location in New York. This comprised roughly 60% of the show's run from its hour-long version that ran from 1960-63.

Now, Image has released two new separate "Best Of" sets, one a 40 episode set that recycles only from the 60 previously released episodes but there is also a separate 20 episode release that gives us 9 new previously unreleased episodes on DVD, including for the first time, two episodes from the original 1958-59 half hour version which starred James Franciscus.

Amazon.com has recently added a pair of pre-order listings showing there are Space: 1999 - Season 1 and Space: 1999 - Season 2 releases set for May 7th, both at $29.98 SRP. At the time of this writing, Amazon's entries show the first season set as a DVD, and the second season as a Blu-ray Disc. A&E's new distributor, Lionsgate, hasn't officially announced the titles yet, but we're convinced that Amazon is simply wrong about the format of the second season, though, and that BOTH of these are going to be in the DVD format.

In 2001 and 2002, A&E first released the classic U.K. Science Fiction created by Gerry Anderson on DVD format in North America, but only in 2-disc configurations such as "Set #1: Volumes 1 & 2." Then, in late 2002, the studio slid all 8 of those releases into a slipcover and sold it as the "Space: 1999 - Mega Set," with a 17th bonus DVD (which also was made available separately to fans via A&E's online store). Five years later, in 2007, the studio repackaged those 17 discs into a slimmer box, and called it the "30th Anniversary Edition"; that's been the most recent Region 1 release on DVD format up until now. There's never previously been season-set releases on DVD format in the USA and Canada...only the 2010 Blu-ray Disc release for Season 1.

So now it makes sense for A&E (and their new distributor, Lionsgate) to go back and finally put out Space: 1999 in Season 1 and Season 2 configurations, and at the rather nice price of $29.98 SRP each. The package art, number of discs, and bonus content info aren't available yet, and they will have to wait until Lionsgate officially announces this product. So stay tuned.

"What about the Season 2 Blu-ray Discs...when can fans buy that?" If you recall the most recent update last September, there are issues with the second season episodes' audio tracks, that are slowing down the remastering of the sound into new 5.1 mixes for the BD format release. According to that last update from our friends at The Digital Bits, the earliest we'll see that Blu Season 2 is "late 2013 or early 2014," and we're not quite there yet. So stay tuned for updates on that too, as further development occurs.

We'll be back on these new DVDs, though, when Lionsgate makes it official. Our thanks to the MANY readers who e-mailed us over the weekend to make sure we knew about these entries!

I don't remember if it was posted here but I just discovered that "Bridget Loves Bernie" was already released in december. The series had really delightful "McMillan"-esque scoring by Jerry Fielding.

Let me remind you this thread deal with "vintage" (1955-1975) classic series only. Everything that start from the 1980's don't belong to this thread.
Keep in mind that, gentlemen.

Is there a dedicated thread for DVD releases of such later shows? And what do we do about series that straddle that line?

Don't pay any attention to that "rule", which is no rule at all.
You can discuss any and all tv shows in this thread, no matter
when they were produced. There is no law governing what
tv shows can be discussed here.

RAWHIDE season 7 is theoretically planned for 2014.
It means "the" season produced by Bruce Geller, the creator of "Mission: Impossible".
Be warned and be prepared.

Eric, thank you so much for this info! I ordered the 40 episode set yesterday and it was shipped today. One of the greatest ever series from the Golden Age as far as I am concerned!!!
