THE ALFRED HITCHCOCK HOUR, Volume 3 Original Television Soundtrack Music Composed and Conducted by Lyn Murray, Leonard Rosenman, Lalo Schifrin and Benny Carter 2 CD Set Our historic series of releases of music from The Alfred Hitchcock Hour continues! The first two volumes of music from the series focused solely (just as they should have) on the music of Bernard Herrmann. Having released every note of all 17 Herrmann-scored episodes, it was time to move on to other composers, and we couldn’t be more excited about it. The first disc of this special 2-CD set presents 75 minutes of music by the Hitchcock Hour’s most prolific composer … Lyn Murray! Murray’s scores were exceptional and varied. As you would expect, they have a very different feel from Bernard Herrmann’s music and each of the four Murray scores we include here (Who Needs An Enemy?, Lonely Place, Triumph and Thanatos Palace Hotel) show a completely different side of the composer. His music can be breezy, beautiful, exotic, adventurous … Lyn Murray could really do it all and we’re thrilled to devote our first CD ever to his music. Disc two of this set presents scores by three legends … Leonard Rosenman (Beast In View, One of the Family), Lalo Schifrin (Memo From Purgatory) and Benny Carter (Crimson Witness). The aficionados who know these episodes will realize immediately how exciting this release is. For those not familiar with these scores and perhaps have no Lyn Murray in their collections at all, you are in for such a treat. Featuring over two hours of premiere music from this television classic, this landmark release is an absolute must for fans of each of the four composers. CDs expected to begin shipping the week of May 29. Limited Edition of 1000 copies Price: $26.98 Catalog #: VCL 0512 1130 DISC ONE (75:34) 1. This was a really nice surprise! I am particularly looking forward to hearing the Lyn Murray and Lalo Schifrin scores. I have to say, part of my joy at the releases of the AHH scores is because I honestly never thought I'd ever get to hear some of this music outside of the television series. It's nice to be wrong sometimes.

This release doesn't seem to be getting much love compared to the others in the latest batch. I guess it could be because it isn't Herrmann's music for the series since that has already been released and many may not be real familiar with the show since it's 50 years old. I'm a huge Herrmann fan, his music is what originally sparked my interest in film music, but I gotta say that Lyn Murray wrote some equally fine music for the series. I guess because he is probably unknown to many and his music comprises half the set, this release just hasn't piqued much interest. Understandable, but it's really too bad, especially considering he wrote more music for the series than anyone, over twice what Herrmann did, and it was generally of outstanding quality. Might be worth the gamble for some and at least you know what you're getting with Rosenman and Schifrin, maybe less so Carter. I'm very much looking forward to receiving this! I am delighted in advance by the third volume of "The Alfred Hitchcock Hour". I am eager for a fourth volume that will include other composers From season 1 "Ride the Nightmare" by Richard Shores "Bonfire" and "I'll be Judge - I'll be Jury" by Pete Rugolo "The Thirty-First of February" and "The Paragon" by Robert Drasnin Anyway, TAHH vol. 1 was released in May 2011 and vol. 2 in November 2011 so we may expect vol. 4 by November 2012.
