I've been holding into a old boot forever...

It contained both FLINT rerecordings plus a VON RYAN'S EXPRESS suite.
Amazing it has taken this long for legitimate releases of all those recordings!

Forgive my ignorance, but, what is the problem with the varese edition containing the two Flint scores? Is that a re recording? I thought that edition was from the original tapes.

Those were the premier release of the original film tracks (but not complete)

These are the re-recordings originally released on vinyl.

This has been discussed many times. The Varese release was from the original tapes, but as people had lived for many years with the (re-recorded) albums, & had got to love them, the Varese never sounded quite right (& were far from complete). I nearly always prefer the original recordings, but in this case I much prefer the album recordings, which up to now have been unavailable. To me they're long loved LP's that at long last are finally getting a CD release. The original film tracks have been re-mastered & are now complete, but Varese have the rights, but seem to have all but given up releasing vintage soundtracks. They are available on the Twilight Time Blu-rays on isolated tracks in stereo. Varese having the rights on any soundtrack is bad news these days.

I didn't knew that, I only have the varese’s one, never heard the others, this seem to be the perfect time, thank you both.

As Roger has confirmed Legrand's Summer of 42, I wonder if the other score he says is "expanded to it's entire powerful length" could be Legrand's "The Three Musketeers" (1973)?

No. Most likely it's PICASSO SUMMER. Unless you wanted to count SWEET NOVEMBER which had several tracks on that Le Cinema De Michel Legrand box set. PICASSO SUMMER has more music than on that original LP and some of the tracks are quite different in the film.

Rad - I don't have but a handful of themes from PICASSO on some compilation, and always
wanted to hear more. I love the main theme - it feels, to me, like something Jarre would have
written, except the ending phrase goes into a different direction than where MJ would have
taken it. Will have to nab Other Side of Midnight too, make it a Legrand-athon!

Hopefully one score will be Planes, Trains, and Automobiles!

I know there are no clues even remotely hinting at this movie, but one can dream.

As I wrote recently in another thread, I remixed the Varese CD and it is now much better. I narrowed the stereo image and reduced the phantom center signal. It now has a lot more balls and more detail.

Yeah, that sounds about right, an expansion of the Warner LP/CD.

I don't know the music for Picasso Summer. Does it qualify as "powerful"?

okay, 2 scores on 2 releases have been announced on Intrada and here. That leaves 3 scores on the last release...has it been announced somewhere yet?

I think that was pushed back 2 weeks.

And a lot of great stuff. the track "No Rest For The Weary" ought to sound fantastic. Can't wait.

Anyone who is a Goldsmith and Flint fan will want this. smile
