I keep remembering what was compared to, what is.I realize they still release soundtrack titles. And they very, very, occasionally will release 'a batch'. But a batch from this company in 2014 isn't what it was in, oh, pick any previous year since the club started. The new company ownership isn't 'into' film score releases anymore. Since there are no more record stores anymore, I cannot imagine where their advertising and priorities lay these days, but not with most of us. When they do release a 'batch' it's of films and composers most of us have never heard before - and to think of amount of titles and artists they're happy to just 'sit on' and not offer up. I don't buy much product anymore mainly because films of today and the composers of today aren't writing film scores 'the way they used to', and still on rare occasion, do. But I would certainly be open to scores from the past that are being expanded upon, or re-released as the other labels are doing. When Varese offers their 'new batchs' or 'new club titles', I don't even look anymore at their site, and it didn't used to be like this. Oh, and M. Night Shyamalan use in my heading simply means that for me, I don't even bother anymore with the man or his films, but again, it didn't used to be that way.

Howdy Montana Dave, As you may know I work at Varese now. I just wanted to let ya know The Cutting Edge Group has no involvement in what Club releases Robert puts out. ZERO say in that. I think the issue may be is since all the other great labels put out older limited edition type scores so frequently that even if a batch from let's say the great guys at La-La Land isn't too your liking you know you'll get another batch of tites in two weeks. Same for Intrada and several other AWESOME labels. The Varese Club tites are maybe a few times a year sometimes 3-4 months in between releases SO if there isn't anything in the batch you like you have to wait much longer, 3-4 months or more or less, as opposed to the other labels where it's just a few weeks for the next round of excellent releases. On top of the Club discs Varese spends a lot of time putting out current film scores as they've been doing that for decades. Some of the other labels do more of the limited edition older title releases as opposed to putting out a lot of current film scores like Varese does. And of course there's other labels who only put out current scores like Watertower and Lakeshore Records. The titles that you may or may not like that Varese puts out is of course your own opinion as to what you like and don't like. I've not bought every Varese Club disc they've put out and the same goes for all the other labels. Hopefully we'll have some stuff out that you will enjoy in the future! We recently put out a GREAT limited edition of Mancini's Who's Killing The Great Chefs Of Europe that I hope you picked up. It's full of themes and great music! All the best buddy

Any possibilities of the Herrmann FOX box being re released in whole or in 'part'?

I wish Varese would release a club batch every 3-4 months like they used to, but there have been only THREE (3) batches released in the last 24 months and one of those "batches", was a single CD. I'm not the only one itching to see DEs of Varese's back catalougue. Especially since most of the scores from the last 3 decades that initial went without an Album have since been addressed. Now, for the most part, it's down to the early 30min albums that we crave expanding Especially gems everyone wants. Air Force One, Executive Decision, Gremlins 2, Predator 2, Starship Troopers, Outbreak, Demolition Man, Terminal Velocity... virtually the entire 90's decade, which is THE decade when score album releases really took an upswing, but were limited by Re-Use costs. High costs that no longer apply. I do have much respect for Mr. Townson, especially after having a generous half hour conversation with him at the 2014 FFM and hope he revisits the Varese catalouge for us. :-)

Peter, When will Predator 2 be out? -J I've been tempted to ask Peter that question many times as well, but wouldn't want him to lose the dream job over it. LOL

You are correct, Mr. Wrathbone. The last truly thrilling release for me was the "Bernard Herrmann at 20th Century-Fox" box. I know that's a tough act to follow, and I know many wish lists have been shortened by some of the CDs the Varese Club has issued since then. Still, I always "anticipate" that next announcement! As for Varese being the M. Night Shyamalan of the soundtrack world, I ALWAYS look forward to the next James Newton Howard score for a Shyamalan film.
